Solitary Man Lyrics
Belinda was mine
'Til the time that I found her
Holding Jim
And loving him
Then Sue came along, loved me strong
That's what I thought
Me and Sue
But that died too
Don't know that I will
But until I can find me
A girl who'll stay
And won't play games behind me
I'll be what I am
A solitary man
Solitary man
I've had it to here
Bein' where love's a small word
Part-time thing
Paper ring
I know it's been done
Havin' one girl who loves you
Right or wrong
Weak or strong
Don't know that I will
But until I can find me
A girl who'll stay
And won't play games behind me
I'll be what I am
A solitary man
Solitary man
Don't know that I will
But until I can find me
A girl who'll stay
And won't play games behind me
I'll be what I am
A solitary man
Solitary man, mm-mm, mm-mm
Solitary man, mm-mm, mm-mm
Solitary man

Well until he can find someone faithful he will remain a Solitary Man ...
Such a simple song, but so powerful
I cant belivie no one has said anything about this song so far. yeah what can you say. women can be so evil sometimes but u keep looking.
I love this song, somewhat melancholy that it is. Yet one more lonely man, looking for true love, and resigned to loneliness until he finds it. Most Neil Diamond songs are not hard to understand, in terms of meanings (hidden or otherwise).
@Major Valor Absolutely! No man can hurt a man like a woman can. I woman can rip your heart out & tear it in half right in front of you face. I have many scars on my as proof.

I've loved that song from the first time I heard it. It's a beautiful but sad song!
Also, Chris Isaak covers it. That is a great version too. Good song all round.
I love this song... specially the cover by HIM... check the shit out... ~Rock
I love this covered by Johnny Cash. All hail the man in black
I agree with ancksunamun909. Did Niel Diamond write this one? I only know the Johnny Cash version.
@Farnsworth Yes, Solitary Man was written by Neil Diamond.

Im pretty sure that JC covered this song from Neil, purely on the basis that his version is on American Man III - which is a cover album. Hes done such great, and some unexpected, covers as U2's "One", NIN's "Hurt", Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage" and Depeche mode's "Personal Jesus". All great covers, with One being better than the original, and Hurt as well - mainly on the basis that I prefer JC, but also because it seems more relevant with this voice singing it.
I prefer the JC version because Bob Dylan sings and plays guitar on it..We can hear his typpical voice in the refrain,so the two genius made this cover betetr than the original
