No Matter What Lyrics
No matter what they tell us
No matter what they do
No matter what they teach us
What we believe is true
No matter what they call us
However they attack
No matter where they take us
We'll find our own way back
I can't deny what I believe
I can't be what I'm not
(I know I'm not)
I know I'll love forever (I know)
I know, no matter what
If only tears were laughter
If only night was day
If only prayers were answered
(hear my prayers)
Then we would hear God say
No matter what they tell you
No matter what they do
No matter what they teach you
What you believe is true
And I will keep you safe and strong
And shelter from the storm
(no matter where)
No matter where it's barren
(a dream)
A dream is being born
No matter who they follow
No matter where they lead
No matter how they judge us
I'll be everyone you need
No matter if the sun don't shine
(the sun don't shine)
Or if the skies are blue
(skys are blue)
No matter what the ending
(my life)
My life began with you
I can't deny what I believe
(what I believe)
I can't be what I'm not
(I know I'm not)
I know this love's forever
That's all that matters now
No matter what
(no no matter)
No no matter what
(no no matter)
No no matter what
No no matter
That's all that matters to me
no no matter..
(to fade..)
No matter what they do
No matter what they teach us
What we believe is true
However they attack
No matter where they take us
We'll find our own way back
I can't be what I'm not
(I know I'm not)
I know I'll love forever (I know)

I think it could be a gay love song. Not that it was intended to be but all songs are open to interpretation and this is one of many possible interpretations. Why not? ;)
It's about innocence, corruption and love. I think it has to be seen as religious. The musical is based on the 1960s film Whistle Down The Wind. I've never seen the musical but remember the film. It might seem a bit dated now but the last time I saw it still had a magical quality. The story is about a criminal (corruption) on the run from the police. He's wounded and holes up in a barn where some kids find him. In their innocence they're convinced he's Jesus and he plays a long with this. Jesus says something in the Bible like unless you become like a child you can never enter the Kingdom of heaven and somehow the simplistic, trusting love of these kids touches the hardened criminal and somehow he finds the love within himself. In the film he's led away handcuffed at the end and looks back at the kids with a sort of awe, they've shown him something he'd long forgotten or never knew, His own innocence. The song fits that perfectly.
In Whistle down the wind the children are singin' this song, bur with another lyrics in the beginning. So I think it is about being a child and that the grown-ups don't understand them. But in Boyzones version it could be gay love or just about a hetero couple who "should not" be together.
I love Boyzone. It's a shame they've broken up, but at least they had the sense to realize the boyband mania would be over soon. Well, Ronan did...can't say the same for the others. Anyway, this is the greatest song by the greatest boyband of all time. Forget NSYNC and BSB, they lack the class, talent and charisma of Boyzone. It's a shame America never had the taste to embrace these guys.
This is such a beautiful song, and I only found it recently. Was this song ever released?
Yes.
No Matter What - #1 UK, #2 AUS, #12 US Adult Contemporary Chart
This song was for the Andrew Lloyd Webber Musical, "Whistle Down The Wind." Meatloaf also did a version of it. Don't listen to it, as it will make your ears bleed. I love this song so much and it was lovely to see them sing it live.
I think this is the great love song and I love Boyzone..no no matter what...endang_ndng@yahoo.com
I think it's about holding onto your belief despite religious persecution, however light- this fits the cross etc in the video. The gay love song fits as well though, as does any type of persecution or hatred.
for all you people trying to guess and saying it is a gay love song. for a matter of fact this song was a tribute the loss of one of their band members Stephen Gately who sadly died during a vacation in Majorca in 2009. he died because of a undiagnosed heart condition.
so this song is about saying no matter what life throws at us we can stand strong and say that our friend ship will never end no matter what! so dont go around saying its a gay song it a very emotionaly sensed song with a strong background
ummm no this song is from 1996. So it wasn't a tribute to Gately. researching things before commenting wouldn't hurt you know. You must be young to think this is a recent song. The lyrics very much point to a love that was forbidden at the time...hence no matter what people say..doesn't matter. Its safe to assume its about gay love
