World Where You Live Lyrics
Here's someone now who's got the muscle
His steady hand could move a mountain
Expert in bed but come on now
There must be something missing
That golden one leads a double life
You'll find out
But I don't know where you go
Do you climb into space
To the world where you live
The world where you live
So here we lie against each other
These four walls can never hold us
We're looking for wide open spaces
High above the kitchen
And we're strangers here
On our way to some other place
But I don't know where you go
Do you climb into space
To the world where you live
The world where you live
The world where you live
When friends come round
You might remember and be sad
Behind their eyes is unfamiliar
Do you climb into space
To the world where you live
The world where you live
His steady hand could move a mountain
Expert in bed but come on now
There must be something missing
That golden one leads a double life
You'll find out
Do you climb into space
To the world where you live
The world where you live
So here we lie against each other
These four walls can never hold us
We're looking for wide open spaces
High above the kitchen
And we're strangers here
On our way to some other place
Do you climb into space
To the world where you live
The world where you live
The world where you live
You might remember and be sad
Behind their eyes is unfamiliar
Do you climb into space
To the world where you live
The world where you live

Here's what Songfacts.com writes: Neil Finn explained the unusual inspiration for this song in a 1998 interview with Goldmine. Said Finn: "I was staying in my manager in L.A.'s house, and there was a woman that lived next door to him who always seemed to be having wild sex at about 6 in the morning. It used to wake me up. And I had no idea anything about her, except that she was really rampantly enjoying the thrash-around.
I think that's where I got the lines 'I don't know where you go, do you climb into space, to the world where you live,' just speculating about this mystery life that was going on next door."
i would love to know what this song is about?
I once read that this song was about trying to work out what your lover is thinking of during sex. It's a typical thing for Neil Finn to be writing about.
@Anders Nilsson e@Anders Nilsson, just during sex? That's very limiting, as I think he wants to know about her inner life when it apppears she is in another world, like everyone does now & then.

@Anders Nilsson, sorry, typos. I meant, only during sex? That's a bit limiting, I feel he wants to know where she goes when it appears she drif

@Anders Nilsson Jesus Christ, why can't we delete or edit a comment? I keep hitting wrong keys, fking up my writing.

I thought this was about what happened after you died. But I don't know much about this song, so I'm probably wrong.
Incredible there is such a lack of thoughts on this masterpiece. To me it feels like a relationship based purely on sex with no commitment. There is a slight feel of security in between them though.

This is a song about a girl who lived next door to Neil Finn. He said he never saw her - only heard her wild life that she lived at 6am. So it's basically Neil playing Dr. Freud to a sex addict.
@angryrobot What?? That's crazy!
