It's A Great Day To Be Alive Lyrics
I got rice cooking in the microwave
Got a three day beard I don't plan to shave
And it's a goofy thing but I just gotta say
Hey, I'm doing alright
Yeah I think I'll make me some homemade soup
Feelin' pretty good and that's the truth
It's neither drink nor drug induced
No, I'm just doin' alright
And it's a great day to be alive
I know the sun's still shinin' when I close my eyes
There's some hard times in the neighborhood
But why can't every day be just this good?
It's been fifteen years since I left home
Said good luck to every seed I'd sown
Gave it my best and then I left it alone
Oh I hope they're doin' alright
Now I look in the mirror and what do I see?
A lone wolf there starin' back at me
Long in the tooth but harmless as can be
Lord, I guess he's doin' alright
And it's a great day to be alive
I know the sun's still shinin' when I close my eyes
There's some hard times in the neighborhood
But why can't every day be just this good?
Sometimes its lonely
Sometimes its only me and
The shadows that fill this room
Sometimes I'm fallin', desperately callin'
Howlin' at the moon (A-ooooooh)
Well I might go get me a new tatoo or
Take my old Harley for a three day cruise
Might even grow me a fu man chu
And it's a great day to be alive
I know the sun's still shinin' when I close my eyes
There's some hard times in the neighborhood
But why can't every day be just this good?
And it's a great day to be alive

This song embodies the "attitude of gratitude" that can instantly help you change your mood from sulking to satisfied.
This song is about celebrating happy little things: Soup, not having to shave... The verse: "It's been fifteen years since I left home Said good luck to every seed I'd sown Gave it my best and then I left it alone Oh I hope they're doin' alright Now I look in the mirror and what do I see? A lone wolf there starin' back at me Long in the tooth but harmless as can be Lord, I guess he's doin' alright"
I love this part. It poetically explains he's left his bygones behind him (which we all should). The wolf staring at him in the mirror represents his current troubles. He's not going to worry about his current troubles because they are "harmless".
Whenever everything seems wrong, bad, or just plain unfair. Be thankful for the things that are good and wonderful in this life. It will instantly make everyday a "Great day to be alive"!
This song was written by a paralyzed man (not travis tritt)..i think thats pretty amazing
Great Song, it's like a saturday morning when you can do anything you want. You wake up and the sun is just shinning, and it's a beautiful day, you can do anything. I love it.
this song just sounds so positive. i can listen to this over and over and it always makes me feel good. points out how things that seem so simple and insignificant can be so great and empowering. really terrific song.
I love this song, it makes me feel good!
this song is the best. it's very positive. everytime i feel good about something i go around singing this song
Actually this song was written by Darrell Scott who is a great songwriter and musician. I encourage everyone to check out his other stuff. Unfortunately, mainstream country music has missed out on this talent in favor of the more "produced" stars.
Indeed a very positive song - but for some reason always makes me cry... not because i view it as a sad song, but because i love life so much, and the whole song is about growing up and moving on... guess deep down i dont wanna grow up...
I always play this out loud early in the morning when I'm feeling down! Always gets the job done, and soon I'm feeling great and grateful for life again. The chorus just tells it all; be grateful for the little things, cause they're what makes life good. I know the sun's still shining when I close my eyes - that's all we need to know to get on by! It's just a really nice optimistic song to get your spirits up.
