i'm definitely gonna have to agree with lars on this one, he said everything i was thinking.
k, this song is, in my opinion, centered around the American idea that they are th ebest and can instill peace wherever they want, but it shows how they are not the most powerful and in fact have backed down from the conflicts mentioned, it's a stab at the american government showing them they aren't all they think they are. (thats waht I think anyhow)
I agree with lars and i think it shows how politics interfear(sp?) with military affairs of the u.s.
No duh its about its about american interference in foreign nations!!! Did any of you pass history class??? If not there is a nice movie that will explain this whole song, i belive itys called "BLACK HAWK DOWN" !!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a great example of how easy it is to be a heroine adict punk musician and criticize everyone, but not actually have to come up with a solution yourself. Military invlolvement in Somalia, at the U.N.'s urging, was to save millions of starving people. Good thing Rancid chimes in with thier valuable foriegn policy advice. Fuckheads.
iampunk (god your name makes me cringe), i think thats what lars and everyone was saying... american government trying to interfere with developing countries who are under a dictatorship or whatever, but end up fucking things up more than before.
you all are reading into this song way too much. this song isn't really saying very much... war and hostility in Africa, a failed military endeavor by the U.S. in Somalia, that's about all.
first off I like the spelling of interFEAR by noschoolspirit. secondly, g2: the criticism put forth here is not about the US (UN technically) getting involved but their lack of commitment. IMHO that's where the US fucked up, if you're gonna do something do it right or stay the fuck out...that's just me.
its about how fucked up it is that a US helicopter crash garnered more attention then the actual problems going on allover africa etc.
You hear "blackhawk down" and you think its a special, pigeon holed story, when in reality, it's common like biscuits.
I must have been high when I wrote that...
