Thinking Up Looking Down Lyrics
In all your life to treasure there,
the precious times,
and times when it's hard to care.
There's moments when
they touch you with that magic touch,
and you shine...
You've shed that skin; it's lying there.
Where are you now?
I hope it's heaven there.
They touch you with that magic touch,
and you shine...
Hold on tight,
and dry those eyes,
and never cry,
'cause in this world,
you're upside down,
when you first come round.
And in this world,
you're upside down,
when you first come round.
But even when Good seems Bad,
keep trying to understand,
that maybe if God's on hand,
you might make it...
And Oh,
I miss those days.
All I can say,
is I miss those days...
the precious times,
and times when it's hard to care.
they touch you with that magic touch,
and you shine...
Where are you now?
I hope it's heaven there.
and you shine...
and dry those eyes,
and never cry,
'cause in this world,
you're upside down,
when you first come round.
you're upside down,
when you first come round.
keep trying to understand,
that maybe if God's on hand,
you might make it...
I miss those days.
is I miss those days...

This song is from the album Sense which also has the song The Life of Riley, which is about the birth of Ian Broudie's son. To me, there are some references to new life in this song too... 'There's moments when they touch you with that magic touch, and you shine...' This line makes me think that you may feel hopeless and down but all this dissolves away when your child is with you.
Also 'And in this world, you're upside down, when you first come round..'
I think this refers to birth as (unless the baby is in breech) we are born head first and upside down so to speak.
The music in this song sort of reminds me of a lullaby too.
Interesting interpretation but to me the song is all about losing a loved one. Possibly a grandparent or older relative.... You've shed that skin; it's lying there. Where are you now? I hope it's heaven there. And the last verse.... And Oh, I miss those days.

All I can say, Is I miss those days... This is what makes music so special. We all have our own interpretation about what lyrics mean and in this case the view is exactly opposite (birth and death) but it doesn't stop it being a great song or our enjoyment of it. I just thought that...

I just thought that having sung about his son, Riley, this one was at the other end of the spectrum, mourning the loss of a loved Grandad or Mother or favourite Uncle.....
