Guess I'm doin' something wrong
Never feel right in these shoes
Pocket full of matches and head full of flame
Got to warn you that I'm bad news
She tucks me in and then she screams
"One day you will have to choose
Either take care of me or take care of you
And don't pretend you're not bad news."
Come on now I'll take you home
You don't ever think to lose
But stick around long enough and you'll find out
I am nothing but bad news
You can never change where your from
No matter who I ridicule
Gonna get on with a better life
And one day I won't be bad news
It's the same
Everyday
When I wake up
It's the same
In the way that you
Gave me up
In the middle of a
Swan-dive
And I was soaring down
Perfect and slow
Never feel right in these shoes
Pocket full of matches and head full of flame
Got to warn you that I'm bad news
"One day you will have to choose
Either take care of me or take care of you
And don't pretend you're not bad news."
You don't ever think to lose
But stick around long enough and you'll find out
I am nothing but bad news
No matter who I ridicule
Gonna get on with a better life
And one day I won't be bad news
Everyday
When I wake up
It's the same
In the way that you
Gave me up
Swan-dive
And I was soaring down
Perfect and slow

This is my favourite Eels song ever. Which is saying a lot because I love them. It's also incredibly sad. But so good.
i love this song,i bought the end of violence soundtrack just for this song.i think the song is something to do with his dad,it was gonna be on beautiful freak but it upset e to much playing it
E doesn't dare to play this song live because he's too afraid that he would burst into tears.
I cried the first time I heard this song. I had my huge eels playlist on shuffle and this song came on for the 1st time. I listened to the lyrics and I love it so much. I listened to it on repeat for the rest of the day, defiantly my favorite eels song.
this is such a sad song but is also so so good probably one of my favourite songs ever
Says E of this song:
"I wanted this to be a song for someone else to sing, but, as usual, no one wants to sing my lyrics. Pussies!"
Also, there are a few errors in the submitted lyric. According to the Eels website, the correct words are:

Yeah, apparently there are two separate versions with a bit of changes in the lyrics. One was made especially for the soundtrack I'm gathering. Either way, this one's a whopper. [Whew.]
If you read his autobiography, it turns out that Mark had spells of being a pretty naughty kid... he developed a bit of a reputation in his town.
Seeing as how he tends to write about what he knows and how distressing it is for him to sing, I think you can safely assume it's about that part of his childhood.
