After All Lyrics

We steal to lose every colour
From the sky
Then crawl as a child
While the shadows burn our eyes

We know there's no longer shine
On this burned out rainbow

Lately it seems we've been chasing
What times resolved
Maybe something means nothing here
After all

Whispers are now screams
This conclusion never ends
My pride with your kiss
Even angels can't defend

We know we're running head on
Into our confusion

Still we hide safe behind these crumbled walls
Cause we know there's nothing here after all

Very much so. I love this song. Im surprised no one commented. To me, this song is a man who is finally realizing that he might not be in love after all. That maybe its time to let go. Time has resolved this long ago. And he is starting to accept it.

I believe it's a guy who is going through a tough time in his relationship and is wondering if it is just a phase or it is really over. 'Lately, it seems we've been chasing what time's resolved or maybe something means nothing here after all'. In other words, 'time has told us that we simply can't get along and no amount of effort is going to change that or maybe we are just over-reacting and it's not really as bad as we think'.

I like these lyrics... I haven't heard the song, though. Does anyone know if the music does it justice?

I sort of get the hint that it's about someone who thinks they know all they need to know, but then realizes they're wrong.

yeah..this is about a man who found out that there was no love in a relation ship after all the times and the efforts he has given to it... he finally admitted this truth because it became apparent to other people ("my pride in your kiss even angels cant defend')..sad, but inevitable..

what was once something special has now faded and become something ordinary and nothing at all.

I agree with stixx_n_strings... I feel like it's about humanity coming to discover that each of us doesn't have all the answers, despite whatever attempts we've made to cultivate our talents and intellect. My favorite line: "We know we're running head on into our confusion."

This is another really great tragic walk in the park of a song by Collective Soul that I think is generally about an ending relationship where both people know its over, but they stick around while it crumbles.

The reason I think that is because it starts out by saying they "lose every color" from the sky, "no longer shine on this burned out rainbow" and that the "something" of their bright relationship is actually turning out to be a dim "nothing" after all. They used to whisper together as a united couple but now they scream at each other and they both know they are running head on into confusion and disaster. Still they stay there, "safe" because for the moment they know what they have. Though they both know itll be over soon.

This song is cool because it describes the long, drawn out crumbling of a relationship where you know its over but nobody has actually left yet, and many people have been there before.

When they say " my pride with your kiss even angels cant defend" I am not really sure what they mean... but whatever it is its a negative thing when they kiss, because even the angels cant find anything good about it or defend him over it.

This song somehow makes me enjoy a nice flowy melodic tune... while a love relationship crumbles to pieces before me.

Such an awesome song!
