Ebroglio Lyrics
i had a friend who died
for something he really loved
i had a friend who stood
for none of the above
i had a friend whose experience
was riddled with scars
who got drunk one night
in the trunk of louie p.'s car
i had a friend who'd love to scare you
as was his affection
and tremble you did
'cause you weren't worthy of his friendship
i had a friend, but now
he's stranded on the mesa street exit
and sometimes i'm jealous
'cause i'm still at the intersection
i had a friend whose heart was too heavy to hold
yes there's blood on the median
like a boat without oars
duct tape the cross on the brown colored box
single file line on the unpaved road
they tipped their hats, respect for the dead
in juarez, mexico is where they buried my friend
there are no words to express
the loss i feel since you've been away
you made this typical sad song
a physical classroom
where i learned nothing
just flashes of your face
it's all a facade and nothing really matters now
he's stranded somewhere on the mesa street exit
and sometimes i'm jealous waiting at the intersection
i had a friend whose heart was too heavy to hold
yes there's blood on the median like a boat without oars
it's all a facade, and nothing really matters now
for something he really loved
i had a friend who stood
for none of the above

wow, i love this song
all i know is on the back of the cd it says "Ebroglio" but in the cd booklet insert it says "Embroglio", not sure if this was a mistake or not, but i can't see how a mistake such as this could've gone unnoticed all the way until the cds release.. but yes, great fucking song.
it says ebroglio on the cd itself too - oh well the song rocks anyways. ATDI mention or talk about Juarez in lots of their songs, like Invalid Litter Dept.
I believe the man he is talking about is the same person he talks about in The Mars Volta song "Concertina". A former member of At The Drive-in had pushed a freind of Cedrics to killing himself. I believe he jumped off a bridge maybe the Mesa Street Exit bridge. And I think Cedric being stuck at the intersection may mean that he is still alive while his freind is dead, or my other thinking is that Cedric is stuck and he can't get to his freind to stop him.
this is by far 1 of the best ATDI songs ever, it is overflowing with depth. It is nice to see that some bands still know how to make real music!
this song is incredible. like every other atd-i song, it has endless meaning to it. cedric was defenitley upset by whatever triggered him to write this song..
this song is awesome and the way its written tells just about what it says, and it is about julio venegas when he had killed himself while at the drive-in was rehearsing and now cedric has had to deal with the loss of his friend and no matter what he does he is constantly thinking of julio
this is about julio venegas, the same guy the intire mars volta album is about.
im from juarez :( still a really good song. you'd think they'd like comming back to el paso or the area? but no, they were pretty arrogent at the show.
the spoken word intro of this song is just one of the best intros to a song ever, the way he says them just kills me.
