Metronome Arthritis Lyrics

strike this match
and let loose the oven's breath
up the volume that
flirts with the UHF

swipe the magnet on the audio tape
these arsons of grand larceny
keep running...keep running in place
achilles tendon
severed from the race

quick to the throat
in this ink cartridge funeral
marble caps lock
zip code affiliate
you got a run on your pharmaceuticals
you better change it
before the night grows old

set the temperature on delete
keep running...keep running in place
let's hit the neighborhood today

you got a run on your pharmaceuticals
you better change it
before the night grows old
prescriptions filled
now cut your suit and tie cuticals
you cut your fingernails way too short

what if forensics finds the answers
what if they stole my fingerprints?
where did i leave my book of matches?
we'll find you...
we'll find you...

Mentronome arthiritus means that time has been thrown off. Because the mentronome keeps perfect time and if it has arthiritus it wont run properly. The song is about arson. Its weird i cant even really explain it.

Does the similarities in the line "Strike this match and let loose the oven's breath" and the bridge from Desperate Graves off Octahedron "When I turn the dial and leave the gas on, I'm the matchstick...etc." strike anyone as wierd... I think I'm just strange, no real meaning here, just random coincidence, i guess.... uhhh.

Probably just coincidence, but it instantly reminded me of the song!

its definitely not about arson, its about burning evidence

this song is about arson. it is about a ablack southern church that was bombed in the 40s or 50s. It killed several people. It was a big deal as far as history, therefore it "changed time" thus throwing the metronome off. Towards the end it is saying that the perpetrators will be caught.

Wonderful song, wonderful lirycs, wonderful band.

i think its about using drugs as a tool for popularity. the ideas of a weakness being there, but covering it up with excess drug abuse. plus i see a sense of speaking to an arrogant person.

i think the last lines of the song are recurring thoughts by someone who has just committed a crime, constantly thinking about whether someone will find out, the "we'll find you" part is kind of like having a nightmare about being caught

yeah, i think its someone who's nervous they will get caught for a crime. "cut your fingernails way too short" if your fingernails are way too short your fingerprints show easily. the criminal feels like he's "running in place" and the authorities are going to find him.

It's hard to think of a song with a more amazing ending. Whenever I am listening to it in the car I am compelled to absolutely scream it out at the top of my lungs. Both its execution and the lyrics themselves ("...we'll find you...") make unbelievably powerful. It's sad to realize there will never be a band like this again. Too bad I never got to see them live.

OK... I don't know much about the background in this song, but here's my thoughts.

Metronome Arthritis is about a few things.

one thing i want to point out is that it could talk about humans and conformity and the workforce, and whatnot. I mean like Lyrics like

"quick to the throat in this ink cartridge funeral"

That reminds me of something like a Printer on a computer that a big business would use.

"you got a run on your pharmaceuticals you better change it before the night grows old" Means we can't afford to be sick, we need our Jobs.

my favorite lines are:

"You cut your fingernails wy too short" To me it means we're way too Classy. we are animals, and basically we try too hard to seperate ourselves. our jobs require clean faces, short nails, and we have learned to accept that. but to me we don't need to be perfect.

meh, my thoughts on some points of this song.
