Mannequin Republic Lyrics

they'd call it a wasteland
auslander plates
you know its armour was human
drove stakes into the main camps
eyesockets sank into
the back of its head again
this frequency was jet lagged
yes the wrinkles mate
was the owner's manual

frequent flyers in denial
and all the while
emergency is evident
revenants were the statues
radar learning of huddles masses
sutured all the patience
of this nursing home
emitted from the pages
of this burial ground

labour concentrated
in this sheepless chapel
they call it a wasteland

I'm not going to speculate what the song is about. The post above is a very clever theory. I just want to say that every single time i listen to this song the same image pops into my head of a beach party. Where people are all playing vollyball, dancing, and doing the hang-ten move on the surfboard. But the whole beach has been nuked and everyone is all fucked up looking or just bones and stuff. Wierd. I just had to share that, heh.

Parts of this song seem like it's about a concentration camp.

eg. Labor concentrated In this sheepless chapel

Emitted from the pages Of this burial ground

You know its armor was human Drove stakes into the main camps

They call it a wasteland They call it a wasteland, baby

This is one of At the Drive-in's best songs. The 'Labour concentrated In this sheepless chapel' bit is incredible.

ummm, the lyrics written above are wrong... cbennett mixed them up with Non-Zero Possibility. Anyway, Mannequin Republic appears to me to be yet another commentary on life from within El Paso and how it's perceived from the outside. The way they talk about their hometown is so subjective that one might mistake it with a death camp... haha

It seems to be a metaphor for willful ignorance. The images of suffering are always contrasted with references to apathy.

to me it´s about war in a futirist way , i don´t know , it´s so much rage in the song . and some parts seems to me like manipulation and experiments with humans , like in the second war ..but maybe in a future war
