Aging Orange Lyrics
I'm Palm Palm head
and I wrote one good song
But that was almost 20 years ago
I tried and I tried to follow it up
But you know how those sophomore jinxes go
So I became quite bitter
as sales dropped like flies
No one likes these dumb songs
of racing cars and spies
Maybe it's my ape drape
or hippies in my band
But now we only tour in Arizona
or Japan
So after much thought
and a panel of experts
I came up with a brilliant little plan
I'll take out my frustrations
on one of these ungrateful new punk rock bands
Cuz I invented socks
and I invented gravy
I made up the cotton gin
but no one ever paid me
Why beat a dead horse
with a career that is cursed?
I'll just sue for royalties
on things I thought of first
Back in Ancient Egypt
many Pharaohs went to jail
for misappropriation
of my Phrigian scale
I said listen to Tutankhamen
you're driving me insane
it's obvious those bellies
are all dancing to Bloodstains
I figured out you owe me
and please try not to laugh
but every time I hear it
I get one more golden calf
So I've bitten off
a sizable chunk
of the hands of the people
with the food
Now I'm confined to the pages of Flipside
a graveyard of punk rock's 35 year old dudes
Cuz I invented socks
and I invented gravy
I made up the cotton gin
but no one ever paid me
Why beat a dead horse
with a career that is cursed?
I'll just sue for royalties
on things I thought of first

This song just makes me laugh! I don't know why I think it is so funny but it just is. Maybe it's because they're talking about how old they all are. "So I've bitten off a sizable chunk of the hands of the people with the food" I really like that part.
I'm pretty sure they're not talking about themselves. The title of the song I'm pretty sure is a pun on the band Agent Orange, who wrote a song called Bloodstains, some old time punkers or something. "Palm Palm Head" is probably Pom Pom Head, referring to the Pompadour hair styles people in that band wore. Apparently they were dank assholes about claiming they invented stuff and this was Dave's way of getting back. Can anyone shed more light on this?

yeah, you're right.
this song is in reference to "Come out & play" by the Offspring. as you will recall, that song had a middle eastern feel to it. Bloodstains by Agent Orange did too, only about 12 years earlier. When offspring hit big with "come out and play" they were accused of ripping off the middle eastern feel from Agent Orange, since offspring claimed to be fans of that band. With this song, the Vandals are reminding Agent Orange that if you're going to copyright middle eastern sounding music, you're going to have to sue a lot of people since the music has been around thousands of years.

for some reason this is like my favorite vandals songs. i agree that "i've bitten off a sizable chunk of the hands of the people with the food" is one of the funniest lines in music.
By the way it says Palm Palm Head because the lead singer of AGent Orange (the old-school band this song dissed for suing Offspring for their claim they lifted the surf guitar riff in "Come Out & Play" from "Bloodstains")
The lead singer of Agent Orange is Mike Palm
This is a fun song. I hope the Vandals really don't personally think Mike Palm is an asshole. He's a really nice, chill guy and I could understand why he may have been somewhat upset over the whole Offspring ordeal. But suing was probably an asshole-like move on his part.
yeah there trying to make fun of agent orange but isnt it funny how at the time Nitro was changing and turning down alot of bands? They wanted to stay on Nitro so to "please" the offspring they made this stupid song. Agent Orange writes deep dark songs even though they are "aging" While Vandals are balding and singing songs about I have a date and high school relationships. There was also some controversy that Self-Esteem sounded too much like Smells Like Teen Spirit. It wasnt even Mike Palm who started anything it was the label that released the song Bloodstains. The album Living In Darkness costs 3.99 on itunes check it out than see if you still think the vandals are any good
