As the last two lines suggest, this maybe the song to end all songs. Whatever the real meaning, this is a great song and it should be played whenever there's trouble in any henhouse.

I don't know either, i like the refernce to kurt cobain tho. I also love how there isa pause from the drums after each of these words: "don't" "wake" "daddy", the drum pause sounds so awsome!
i really like the line about Kurt Cobain, i can just imagine him reincarnated as a Huskey and sleeping by a fire at a log cabin somewhere in Alaska.
i also like how Gord comes in on the 3rd verse and the song picks up a bit more.
Believe it or not Tud, this song was apparently inspired by an unusual meeting between Gord Downie and Kurt Cobain. Cobain was passed out at the time, but it left an impression on Downie and this beautiful song was born.
I know this song doesn't have anything to do with 9/11 but it made me think of something...
When the towers fell, America was awakened from its sleep by the bullies in Al-Qaeda. America, to some degree, is the "daddy" of the world. We have to discipline children who challenge our hegemony. Afghanistan was blown into the ground, so was Iraq, and that leaves Iran and Syria next. Maybe this song should the USA's new national anthem, considering how our foreign policy tends to be ridiculed by leftist and center-minded noisemakers.
