Agreed. The part where the bass kicks in truly makes you feel that every penny (paisa, in my case) spent on that expensive speaker set was worth it.

Love this song. The lyrics are both very silly in places and very clever in others. I love the penultimate line "I'm Jeff Goldblum in The Fly".. wonderful stuff.

This song says basically that he doesnt know what to expect in his life because there is always a positive or negative in every scenario and therefore he can't say who he is or what he stands for.

From an interview with Neil Hannon about if he divulged the meaning of the song: "I think I did. You know what, the first person who got it was my mum, which I thought was brilliant as she clearly knows the workings of my mind! The answer is ‘spirit’. Gin, spirit, you know…and you can go through all the other ones, pretty much. That’s certainly what I was thinking. Usually people go, “Uh?”"

I've just been fortunate enough to stumble upon Neil Hannon and his genius (hey, I'm American), and this is a fave. Pure poetry. How many verses do you suppose he concocted before settling on a finished product? Whaddya say to . . .
