Big Dipper Lyrics

Once
When I was little someone pointed out to me
Some constellations but the big dipper's all I could see
That brontasaurus must have stood a thousand miles high
That brontasaurus laying on its side up in the sky

Bottoms up and this time
Won't you let me be?
Bottled up but this time
Won't you rescue me?
You should have been here last night and heard what the big dipper said to me

Jack thought it twice and thought that that that made it true
Some brains just work that way
that's what chemicals can do
He thought he'd have a beer
he thought he was alone
He thought an Albertson's stir fry dinner would make his apartment a home

Bottoms up and this time
Won't you let me be?
Bottled up but this time
Won't you rescue me?
You should have been here last night and heard what the big dipper said to me

I thought I bored me but I learned to think like you
Now nothing bores me that's that nothing is thought through

Bottoms up and this time
Won't you let me be?
Bottled up but this time
Won't you rescue me?
Thought it out and this time
It's all I can see
You should have been here last night and heard what the big dipper said to me

this song is talking about losing the sense of wonder you had as a little kid, trading it for lots of chemicals in old age to try to recover some of it. you fail miserably. it's nostalgic in a way, and sad. the only times you look at the stars anymore are when you are wasted.

just someones life, they are looking back, to when things were sweet and innocent, and are kind of unhappy with what they've become (boring, unimaginative). thats my guess.

I think Morrysseyscoot sums it very well.

Here's what wikipedia has to say about the Big Dipper :

"In North America it is universally known as the Big Dipper because the major stars can be seen to follow the rough outline of a large ladle or dipper. This figuration appears to be derived originally from Africa, where it was sometimes seen as a drinking gourd. In the 19th century, runaway slaves would follow the Drinking Gourd to the north and freedom."

So maybe the Brontausaurus up in the sky that your imagination could conjure when you were a kid has turned into a bottle, and that's your only way to escape reality now.

I don't know what it is about this song. But it gets stuck in my head and won't get out. I think i agree with Ibold. Although the line "You should have been here last night and heard what the big dipper said to me " is kind of weird maybe he's so drunk he thinks the constellation is talking to him. I dunno i love this song

I'm pretty sure "That's what chemicals can do" is refering to chemical imbalances in the brain
