One Particular Harbour Lyrics
IA ORA TE NATURA
E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI
IA ORA TE NATURA
E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI
Nature lives (life to nature)
Have pity for the Earth
(Love the Earth)
I know I don't get there often enough
But God knows I surely try
It's a magic kind of medicine
That no doctor could prescribe
I used to rule my world from a pay phone
And ships out on the sea
But now times are rough
And I got too much stuff
Can't explain the likes of me
Chorus:
But there's this one particular harbour
So far but yet so near
Where I see the days as they fade away
And finally disappear
But now I think about the good times
Down in the Caribbean sunshine
In my younger days I was so bad
Laughin' about all the fun we had
I've seen enough to feel the world spin
Mixin' different oceans meetin' cousins
Listen to the drummers and the night sounds
Listen to the singers make the world go 'round
IA ORA TE NATURA
E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI
IA ORA TE NATURA
E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI
Lakes below the mountains
Flow into the sea
Like oils applied to canvas
They permeate through me
And there's that one particular harbour
Sheltered from the wind
Where the children play on the shore each day
And all are safe within
Most mysterious calling harbour
So far but yet so near
I can see the day when my hair's full gray
And I finally disappear
IA ORA TE NATURA
E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI
IA ORA TE NATURA
E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI
UA PAU TE MAITAI NO TE FENUA
RE ZAI NOA RA TE ORA O TE MITIE
Bounty of the land is exhausted
But there's still abundance on the sea
E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI
IA ORA TE NATURA
E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI
Have pity for the Earth
(Love the Earth)
But God knows I surely try
It's a magic kind of medicine
That no doctor could prescribe

Wasn't Jimmy flying around everywhere in a private jet and private planes? So words but no action on 'Having pity on the earth'? Just kidding, the earth takes care of itself Good song though
mmmm fun in the sun... goin back to that one place where everything comes back and its goodtimes all around
True that! This song reminds me so much of summer, because I spent a whole day listening to it outside cleaning and just having fun in the pool, etc.. this is just a song about returning to a place where it's just fun and easygoing.. that "one particular harbor".
"but then I think about the good times, Down in the Caribbean sunshine.."
"I know i don't get there often enough, but god knows i surely try"
favorites.
Never knew what the Tahitian(?) lyrics at the beginning meant, but now that I do, I love the song even more. One of Buffett's best.
Of all of Jimmy Buffet's great songs, this is the obscure song that touches me the most. It's about that place where you are truly home.
"But there's this one particular harbour So far but yet so near Where I see the days as they fade away And finally disappear"
It's that place that forever calls out to you. The place (the harbor) can be a physical place, a person, a family, or even a spiritual place. Beautiful song.
I like your way of looking at it LaBradford.

I think your quotes and this quote describe exactly what you were saying. It is that escape you have from the crazy life most of us live now a days. It's wherever your perfect place of happiness happens to be. Jimmy Buffett is my favorite all time artist and his songs are amazingly deep and meaningful... even if he plays his free easygoing persona....

I don't think the one particular harbour is a real place. I think it's a place in our minds that we go to to escape the real world. It's that perfect place where we find peace and relaxation.
