I rounded first, never thought of the worst
As I studied the shortstop's position,
Crack! went my leg like the shell of an egg -
Someone call a decent physician!
I'm no Pete Rose, I can't pretend.
Though my mind is quite flexible
Rhese brittle bones don't bend.

Chorus
I'm growing older but not up,
My metabolic rate is pleasantly stuck.
Let those winds of change blow over my head,
I'd rather die while I'm living then live while I'm dead.

Sometimes I see me as an old manatee
Heading south as the waters grow colder.
Tries to steer clear of the hum drum so near
It cuts prop scars deep in his shoulders,
But hat's how it flows right to the end
Though his body's still flexible,
That barnacle brain don't bend.

(Chorus)

So now don't get me wrong, this is not a sad song,
Just events that I have happened to witness
And time takes its toll as we head for the pole
And no one dies from physical fitness.
So what the hell? We'll take it right to the end.
As the days grow more complicated
The night life still wins

(Chorus)

Let the winds of change blow over my head
I'd rather die while I'm living then live while I'm dead

There used to be words missing. I see somebody edited the original.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
