will i wake up
is it a dream i made up
no i guess it's reality
what will change us
or will we mess up
our only chance to connect
with a dream
say a prayer for me
i'm buried by the sound
in a world of human
wreckage
i'm lost and i'm found
and i can't touch the
ground
i'm plowed into the sound
to see wide open
with a head that's broken
hang a life on a tragedy
plow me under the ground
that covers the message
that is the seed
is it a dream i made up
no i guess it's reality
what will change us
or will we mess up
our only chance to connect
with a dream
i'm buried by the sound
in a world of human
wreckage
i'm lost and i'm found
and i can't touch the
ground
i'm plowed into the sound
with a head that's broken
hang a life on a tragedy
plow me under the ground
that covers the message
that is the seed

this song might be the best single to come out of the nineties...definitely one of the most underrated/forgotten songs from that time...
@BostonPJFan 11 years later I completely agree

Is it just me, or does this sound like a social distortion song? I mean, c'mon..the singer sounds like Mike Ness, don't he?
I thought the same. The singer is very Ness-esque and it has that old school rock'n'roll style drumming.

Great song. Two great bands.

My take on the meaning is that it's a song about pursuing your dream in the face of doubt and naysayers.
"will i wake up is it a dream i made up no i guess it's reality what will change us or will we mess up our only chance to connect with a dream"
Generally daydreams are about things we want. He's hoping that he won't wake up and be disappointed to find out that his possibly life-changing pursuit will not have been real.
"say a prayer for me i'm buried by the sound in a world of human wreckage i'm lost and i'm found and i can't touch the ground i'm plowed into the sound"
He asks for those around him to wish him luck in his pursuit, because he knows the sound of those with broken dreams who will inevitably attempt to dissuade him can be deafening. The further and closer he gets to accomplishing his dream, the more opposition he may face, but presses on nonetheless.
"to see wide open with a head that's broken hang a life on a tragedy plow me under the ground that covers the message that is the seed"
He knows that even getting closer, that dwelling on failure is how self doubt begins. Doubt that could cause him to give up his cause, accept defeat, and join the rest of those who have abandoned their hopes & dreams.
"will i wake up is it a dream i made up no i guess it's reality"
The songs ends with him having made his original dream a reality.
What is the movie Empire Records about? Can someone tell me? Meow
It was just about a music store that they were trying to save. It has a young Liv Tyler in it.

this song is about man's need for unison with nature...in all forms
Not a big fan of Sponge but this is my FAVORITE song EVER! I just reminds me of someone that is not sure what way there life is headed and is just wishing for the best.
being completely immersed in everything you do and knowing it; and the feeling that has on you
to me, this song is about finding and lossing ones self in somthing and being not sure if they can or want to get out.
