I actually read that Paul wrote this after seeing two monkies in the middle of the road... well you get the idea.
That's the story, apparently. He saw the liberal way that monkeys were making love, and thought, why couldn't humans be that liberal. More of the Beatles' Give Peace A Chance ideal.

I love the simplicity of this song ... and ummm well the lyrics speak for themselves. Hard to get any more frank than this.
