Wave Motion Gun Lyrics
Backstage behind the curtain there's an
There's an armchair with a secret engine and you
You climb in and get naked watching Star Blazers
Wish you had their amenities
To fend off your enemies
In one big blast from your wave motion gun
And so you reach down to that secret panel and there's a
There's a whole raft of little buttons and you
You pick one and hope it takes you to Mars
Soon there'll be no pain again
You'll feel like yourself again
When you shoot all your heroin
In one big blast from your wave motion gun
And so downstairs behind the oven there's a
There's a dark hole where, where the gas comes in
You know you should, you should climb in
It'll get you there so much faster
Soon there'll be no pain again
You'll feel like yourself again
When you shoot all your heroin
In one big blast from
In one big shot from
In one big blast from
In one big shot
From your wave motion gun
Wave motion gun
Wave motion gun
Wave motion gun
Wave motion gun
Wave motion gun
There's an armchair with a secret engine and you
You climb in and get naked watching Star Blazers

It'll get you there so much faster
You'll feel like yourself again
When you shoot all your heroin

I really like this song. Obviously the song is about heroin. I really like how this song captures the "just a little bit higher" aspect of opiate use. Whenever I use hydrocodone I tend to use something else once I'm high, not because hydrocodone isn't fun, but beacuse the mindset is "just a little bit higher." Almost all of shapeshifter lends itself well to drug use. Marcy playground is so underrated.
And of course, the name comes from Star Blazers. Star Blazers was on of the early anime series that came over to America. Used to watch it growing up in the 80s. There was a spaceship that looked like an old battleship with a huge gun in the front, the Wave Motion Gun.
This is such a wonderful song, there is no wonder why Wozniak (song writer/vocalist of MP) sees it as one of his best [as proclaimed on his blog].
This song reminds me of getting high on opiates (not heroin, but various other forms of opiates) and crawling into a comfortable place and watching a favorite movie or favorite TV show [Star Blazers?!]. Something you can be completely comfortable and content with.
Bliss.
While the lyrics are admittedly kind of ambiguous, it's actually supposed to be something of an anti-heroin song:
" “Wave Motion Gun” is a cool song. That’s off Shapeshifter. That’s a song that a lot of people seem to really dig. It’s one of those impression songs. In the end, it’s telling the story about me trying to convince my friend not to do heroin anymore. And that became a theme of my life because I went to college in Olympia, Washington, in the early ‘90s. It was sort of a port area in the Pacific Northwest where all the heroin trade was coming through. And everybody was on it at the time in the early '90s. And all my friends were sort of disappearing, and I didn’t know where they were going. I found out they were all doing heroin. And they were doing it together, which is really a weird thing. But I never did it. It was not something I was ever interested in. In fact, drugs are something that never really interested me, except for some experimentation. But I just started watching friends die and disappear and drop out of school and stuff, and turning up in houses in San Francisco and shit like that. And my one closest friend I tried to convince to stop doing it, and that’s kind of what that song’s about."

I think everyone wanted Batman's car growing up.
Batman never had awesome powers, but he was decked out with cool weapons that could blow the bad guys away.
