@N0 C0DE 79 , i dont know if it's a hopeful song, in the sense that it's optimistic. but i do think it's candidness about vowing to get clean....he had quit drinking by this point but was enslaved to drugs

I love the organ that breaks out in the middle of the song,... it kinda takes away from the despair, but adds to the emotion of the song,...

Definitely about a relationship...a relationship that could have flourished...but promises were broken, people changed and things didn't work out. But there's always hope for the future...hope for getting over the loss.

They're thinking about how life would have been if their significant other would have stayed instead of leaving. Inevitably, a tear streams down because of that feeling of loneliness. Hiding this is extremely hard, that's why he admits it and does not deny it.

As opposed to the previous verse, in this one you see "one more denial" because that person still refuses to believe that they are separate. That person will not admit that they are emotionally separated, even though he's got tears in his/her eyes.

I think this song is actually about a failed attempt at trying to stop drinking. I mean, these lyrics are what it feels like after a while of sobriety and then starting to drink again.
