Q&A
For Celebrations Past Lyrics
This is for footsteps approaching the night
They keep themselves moving and do what is right
Now watch what you gather and hold in your hand
Numbers are many who misunderstand
Drink your wine away instead
I won't remember all that's said
Say farewell and close the door
You'll find me nevermore
That I believe in
That I believe in
That I believe in you
Must be a crying shame
Tell you a story of that which comes last
All of the sorrow that lives in the past
Now if you're tired of all that's been told
Don't be surprised that I've grown so old
Drink your wine away instead
I won't remember all that's said
Say farewell and close the door
You'll find me nevermore
That I believe in
That I believe in
That I believe in you
Must be a crying shame
Breathing blind shadows or dead on the vine
I'm there in the morning to take you sometimes
To watch what you gather and hold in your hand
The numbers are many who misunderstand
Drink your wine away instead
I wont remember all that's said
Say farewell and close the door
You'll find me nevermore
That I believe in
That I believe in
That I believe in
That I believe in
That I believe in you
Must be a crying shame (x 3)
Oh yeah
Must be a crying shame (x 3)

thooh, i love this song i don't know what it's about but i love it
I get the feeling that it's about Christian faith, and the stigma attached to it in some places. "Numbers are many who misunderstand" "That I believe in you, must be a crying shame" Nothing obvious, just vague imagery.
@rustyD interesting, but I'm still puzzled by the meaning of the song. I have no idea

I'm glad there are still some Trees fans out there. One hell of a band; Lanegan sounds like a modern day Morrison. And with the two big guys strumming makes it that much better. I'm glad there are not a ton of us; however, I bet the bands thinks otherwise.
The song baffles me. Could be about many things; I do like it.
