Standing On The Edge Lyrics
Standing by myself on the sidewalk
Nothing in this world could make me talk
I'm nailed to this floor where there is no air
Alone I see myself and stare
Locked inside this world you gave me
It's lonely here through the smoke I can't see clear
And I know all the ways and I'll try
And I've seen all the places I get eyed
If I bear myself in the yard
Would the end of the day always seem so hard
Wait for the world to turn around
Then I won't go up or down
Gentle winds must sometimes sit
The face that looks on in my mirror
And I know all the ways and I can try
And I've seen all the places where I hide
If I bear myself out in the yard
Would the end of the day always be so hard
Standing on the edge of the wall
Sometimes I get too close and I fall, yeah
And I know all the ways and I can try
And I've seen all the places where I hide
If I bear myself in the yard
Would the end of the day always be so hard
Well all the nights last a thousand years
When you're in a time that feels so near
I'll just say you were the word I found
And then I won't go up or down
And I know all the ways and I can try
And I've seen all the places where I hide
If I bear myself in the yard
Would the end of the day always be so hard
Standing on the edge of the wall
Sometimes I look down and I fall, yeah
Just standing on the edge of the wall
I always go to far and I fall, yeah
Nothing in this world could make me talk
I'm nailed to this floor where there is no air
Alone I see myself and stare
Locked inside this world you gave me
It's lonely here through the smoke I can't see clear
And I've seen all the places I get eyed
If I bear myself in the yard
Would the end of the day always seem so hard
Then I won't go up or down
Gentle winds must sometimes sit
The face that looks on in my mirror
And I've seen all the places where I hide
If I bear myself out in the yard
Would the end of the day always be so hard
Sometimes I get too close and I fall, yeah
And I've seen all the places where I hide
If I bear myself in the yard
Would the end of the day always be so hard
When you're in a time that feels so near
I'll just say you were the word I found
And then I won't go up or down
And I know all the ways and I can try
And I've seen all the places where I hide
If I bear myself in the yard
Would the end of the day always be so hard
Standing on the edge of the wall
Sometimes I look down and I fall, yeah
I always go to far and I fall, yeah

This was off of one of the first releases by the Screaming Trees called Clairvoyance,...
The song kinda starts out as the typical acid rock song with soft vocals and the erratic guitar in the background not neccisarily playing an organized riff but just kinda of playing,...
But then comes the chorus where Lanegan lights this song up! Standing on the edge of the wall Sometimes I get too close and I fall, yeah!
Lanegan's vocal IS what makes this song spectacular,...
I like the depth of the lyrics as well,..
It implys that the writer is trying to traverse a wall (figuritively, like the kind of wall an isolated kid will put up against the world)
and in the process of trying to get over the wall, something happens that sets him back,...
There's an extraordinary amount of depth to the lyrics here, especially considering that Lanegan was only about 18 or 19 when this song was recorded...
@N0 C0DE 79 These lyrics are likely Gary Lee Conner\'s, not Lanegan\'s, like most early Screaming Trees songs, though he probably wrote a few lines.

hard to think of what this song means. lyrics are hard interpret. i think maybe he's pissed about his life, does drugs, tries to hide from it, but doesn't work out?
