Post-modern Sleaze Lyrics

She looks ahead, she paints her toe nails red,
She's wet and wild, a typical 90's child,

She makes every move they make,
She takes everything they take,
She must be a Thelma or Louise,
She must be a post-modern sleaze

Unscrew the wine, she'll throw a party line,
Stories extreme, she's such a drama queen,
Cries through the night, she choked on Marlboro lites,
Pure charm and grace, she hates her pretty face,

She makes every move they make,
She takes everything they take,
She must be a Thelma or Louise,
She must be a post-modern sleaze

Straw spun from gold, she craves a tortured soul,
All doom and gloom, she plays an open wound,

She takes every scene they steal,
She takes every pain they feel,
She must be a Thelma or Louise,
She must be a post-modern sleaze

I think this song is talking about a "party girl" who kind of follows along every little trend. Plain and simple.

This song plays during the closing credits of a very bad movie called New Best Friend that I watched on HBO at like 3 in the morning once. It basically totally describes the girls in the movie: rich drunk and drugged up college grils who sleep around and act totally carefree and crazy. The thing is, though, that they hate themselves and each other.

Liam: "The re-introduction of sleaze by a conceptual mechanism that turns a once cultural weakness or symptom into a cultural affirmation of power. How many re-inventions can we take? Ironic sleaze? Irony is post-modernisms excuse to shit out anything it wants. Time to wipe its arse." Explanation 2: It dissects the 'Thelma & Louise' syndrome, whereby seemingly happily married women ditch their partners for a trashier lifestyle straight out of a magazine.

Quais Taraki thinks this song is saying post-modernism is cheap, vulgar, and ultimately tasteless. It’s a reflection of the artist’s art form. Quais Taraki thinks this is a self critical look at modern culture and a push towards the classics. Quais Taraki sees Sneaker Pimps as neo-conservative.

Does anyone know if this string section was sampled from somewhere? Lush and beautiful..I swear, the bridge section especially reminds me of something, the nylon guitar picking too
