Your beauty took my breath away
In awe all day
Your company was so relaxing
Easy going ways
We saw the first signs of summer and springtime change
Walking barefoot along the sand
I hadn't planned to stay

Yeah we've been walking barefoot
All summer
It'll be sad my friend
To see it come to an end
Why can't we just quit

You are broke all summer
But you still sing
Don't need money when it's sunny
Don't need anything
Just need music and sun and laughter
And no currency
The sun on your bare shoulders
Comes for free

Yeah we've been walking barefoot
All summer
It'll be sad my friend
To see it come to an end
Why can't we just quit
Yeah we've been walking barefoot
All summer
Why can't we just design
To live like this all the time
Why can't we just quit

Sand ran through my fingers
And the land was hot
Anointed by Apollo
And his chariot
Disarmed by your charm
That night I felt it again
Addictive and consuming
Love's sweet pain

Yeah we've been walking barefoot
All summer
It'll be sad my friend
To see it come to an end
Why can't we just quit

Our days are as the wind blows us
We are free
You've a quiet love out of town
Of coastal ease
The wind it has no pattern
We take life slow
And when the night has fallen
Out cups overflows

When the summer's gone
And the room is cold
When you're looking at the rain
And it just won't go
Remember when the sun was high
Up above
Remember when the days were long
And we were in love

Yeah we've been walking barefoot
All summer
It'll be sad my friend
To see it come to an end
Why can't we just quit
Yeah we've been walking barefoot
All summer
Why can't we just design
To live like this all the time
Why can't we just quit

General Commentthis song rocks. it reminds me of this summer for me, the summer of '02 because i had sucha great summer and this just captures it. and plus im leaving for school and its like "it'll be sad my friend to see it come to an end". the "why can't we just quit" line, to me, means why cant we just quit everything and keep living this summer...hehe.

General Commentit reminds me of summer 2002 :).. kinda saddening.. this song makes me saddened cuz this part:When the summer's gone and the room is cold
When you're looking at the rain and it just won't go Remember when the sun was high, up above Remember when the days were long And we were in love.. i love that part.. it reminds me of how i am now with someone and i won't see them again after the summer's over.. thats what this song means to me

General Commenti like it as it's light and cheerful and happy with a sad bit - if that makes sense. when i here this i always thing of a homeless girl though, and how the summer it's fun to so free, and that everything is alright cause you are warm and the sun is shining on you and you don't need any money. but then the winter comes and it's cold etc.

General CommentGod I love this... this reminds me of Summer '01 when I was in Italy and it was hot and beautiful and you're all happy. It says you don't need money, you "just need music and sun and laughter and no currency, the sun on your bare shoulders it comes for free". You can be so happy but then the Summer dies and it's cold and wet and you're skint and alone and everything crashes around you. This is a song to listen to when you're feeling depressed, I guess Tim wrote it to pick yourself up and say 'hey, remember the good times, they'll be more of them, the Summer's not gone forever..". Sometimes I find that kind of hard to beleive because what you had was so fun and beautiful and it dies, there is no resurrection. This is still an amazing song, the lyrics are so simple and naive and Tim's voice sounds so young, I love him!!

General CommentThis is possibly my favourite Ash song , maybe my favourite song in the world. It has so many good memories for me of summer, being on holiday and being with my friends, carefree and happy. My favourite bit is also:
''We are as The wind blows us
    We are free
You've a quiet life out of town
    Of coastal ease
And the wind it has no pattern
    We take life slow
And when the night has fallen
    Our cup overflows

When The summer's gone and the room is cold
When you're looking at the rain and it just won't go
Remember when the sun was high up above
Remember when the days were long
    And we were in love.''

Bittersweet and beautiful it makes me cry when I hear it 'cos I'm such a sentimental fool.
I think the meaning is clear, the memories of a summer, the lamenting of the passing of the seasons, and the best times of your life that you will never have again, and can never be replaced. Tim is a God.

    General CommentThe perfect "summer song"
Tim is one of the best songwriter ever..

"Remember when the days were long
And we were in love "
During winter you can just remember how life is beautiful..

    Bye

General Commentthis is my favorite ash song as well, though unlike most comments here, it reminds me of the past 6 summers rather than just one. =P

it's definitely a song i relate to, and yeah, it's happy with a tinge of longing and sadness, I guess. makes me miss someone SO MUCH, while at the same time making me happy just to relive so many great memories.

"why can't we just design to live like this all the time?"

if only life were that simple...
