Up On The Downside Lyrics
This England made me
Between the war and a rockets flying
You found the crib it saves me
And teach me wrong and right
Then the world was talking
But never got its chance to say
When there's too much talking
Nobody hears a word you say
And you won't see
And baby now I won’t hear
These blind communications
Only last throughout the year
And half of what we're saying
Is halfway near the truth
And blind communications
For a million hearts and fools
I am a witness
To a land of a million fools
All placing bets on life
And hate the ones who lose
And all who’re lonely
And never get the chance to say
That their one and only
Would be the chance to even play
(Repeat Chorus)
Hello Monday
The weekend’s just a blur
I've been burning bridges
And now I'm begging at your door
So I’ll keep on working
'Cos it's a chance for me to pay
But too much talking
When you believed the words I say
(Repeat Chorus)
Between the war and a rockets flying
You found the crib it saves me
And teach me wrong and right
But never got its chance to say
When there's too much talking
Nobody hears a word you say
And baby now I won’t hear
These blind communications
Only last throughout the year
And half of what we're saying
Is halfway near the truth
And blind communications
For a million hearts and fools
To a land of a million fools
All placing bets on life
And hate the ones who lose
And all who’re lonely
And never get the chance to say
That their one and only
Would be the chance to even play
The weekend’s just a blur
I've been burning bridges
And now I'm begging at your door
So I’ll keep on working
'Cos it's a chance for me to pay
But too much talking
When you believed the words I say

What an amazing guitar riff in this song- so bluesy and so rock 'n roll. This song cannot help but make you smile, it's just got that vibe. This song's about going through life, taking chances, but also learning what's wrong and what's right and moving ahead with the new knowledge. It's also about having fun (as most of their songs are). This one and "Mechanical Wonder" will be my songs of this coming spring no doubt! :)
This is a class song. I bought this album just before a uni interview years ago I listened to this song moments before going in to lift my spirits.Didnt get into that one it turned out lol....anayways...
I kind of agree with what tigertour is saying To me it starts with how we are born in to a crazy world with no knowledge of right/wrong and unaware of what we will later become.
Then it explains how we believe in what we hear, without looking at the bigger picture ourselves "blind comunications" and dont have chance to voice what we deeply feel, which inturn sends us down crazy paths in life inwhich we are judged and judge others
Then it explains how he now feels, being older and much more life experienced ..."Hello Monday The weekend’s just a blur".
"I've been burning bridges And now I'm begging at your door"...Is all about how hes turning a new leaf.
This is the greatest song ever writtain by the ocs boys, I feel so energetic when i hear it and it is a really cheerful song! What des it mean tho??????? v good song
Apparently its a drinking song. Which fits. It says that in the sleeve of "Songs from the front row" so yeah. Love the tune. Song is great also.
yeah, deffinately one of the best. the tune just rocks.
I think this song has a lot of references to stages of life.
First verse is being born and taught right from wrong. Second verse is about the teenage years of looking for love. Last verse is about being an adult and working to get by.
