Long Gone Day Lyrics
So much blood I'm starting to drown
Runs from cold to colder
Time to time the skies come down
To help me lose my way
Tears and lies for answers
You and open veins, God knows I'm gone
Girl I just want you to
Come on down
Lord it's a storm and I'm heading to fall
These sins are mine and I've done wrong, oh babe
Come on down
Long gone day
Mmmm, who ever said
We wash away with the rain
See you all from time to time
Isn't it so strange
How far away we all are now
Am I the only one who remembers that summer
Oh, I remember
Everyday each time the place was saved
The music that we made
The wind has carried all of that away
Long gone day
Mmmm, who ever said
We wash away with the rain
So many tears I'm starting to drown
The rain in heaven's all come down
Silver spoons fix the crown
The luckless ones are broken
Fears and lies for answers
You and open flames
God knows I'm gone
And I just want you to
Come on down
Lord it's a storm and I'm heading to fall
These sins are mine and I've done wrong
I want you to, oh I just want you to
Come on down
I fear again, like then, I've lost my way
And shout to God to bring my sunny day
Runs from cold to colder
Time to time the skies come down
To help me lose my way
Tears and lies for answers
You and open veins, God knows I'm gone
Girl I just want you to
Come on down
Lord it's a storm and I'm heading to fall

What surprises me most about Long Gone Day the more I listen is how much unexpected instrumentation is found. No other grunge group I've heard records with marimbas and saxophone at the forefront. It's a perfect juxtaposition of laid back music and very dark and personal lyrics. This is why I love Mad Season.
You're clearly a retard who's never heard Drawing Flies before.

"the wind has carried all of that away"...is one of the saddest lines ever. this is the best song on the cd...i just love it
This is the best song I've ever heard.
this is one of the most beautiful songs ever.
to me, it's about regret. things you wish you said, things you wish you did.
despite all the crap that's happened since, he remembers one summer fondly, even if no one else does. he want's to hold on to that summer forever.
i've had a summer like that. i always feel like i'm the only one who remembers what a good time we had. all the friends that shared it with me have forgotten.
kinda makes me teary-eyed.
you almost have it right IMO. layne formed this band soon after rehab and was very angry about the way his life was and how he felt he was sold out. that summer is about he and jerry cantrell making the music we all know and love. he remembers they were the same as he was. 'ohhhhhhh i remember', he's pissed. he felt abandoned and cheated by the way he felt he was exiled from the band over something they all used to do. thats all. great song though, i was there too. i know exactly how he feels and...

No, it's not about Jerry and him. If you read the liner notes of Above, the album this song came from, he mentions who was there that summer.

This is also talked about in Adriana Rubio's biography of Layne Staley called Get Born Again.

this song is one of my favorites by mad season. i think ive figured it all out by the liner notes in the above album. it's basically about wanting to get in touch with those that you loved, but haven't kept in touch with over the years and wanting the good times to last. once they're gone or "washed away with the rain" you feel such isolation and loneliness. the one line that really got me bawling, especially when Layne died was "silver spoons affix the crown. the luckless ones are broken" meaning that many of his friends had drifted into heroin, including himself. and died. this was written only a short time before Demri, Layne's fiance died. they had a falling out a year or so before.
This song makes me teard-eyed too. I would like to go back to those summers.
"...The music that we made The wind has carried all of that away..." :(
I
m sad becouse of Laynes death.that live version at the moore sounds even better than the album version!
Life's like that. There ain't nothin' better than the innocence of youth, the friends you had back then and the shit you done together. How I wish I could be 15 once again, relive the best time I ever had. I ain't even able to ask 'em if they remember 'cause I'm so fuckin' far away, I ain't got no telephone numbers and shit to maybe give 'em a call. It's all gone wrong. Well.. at least I got this song.
Layne remembering a time in his life where he felt safe. He felt important, not just needed but wanted. To be back in a time where he had hope for the future for it seemed the sky was the limit.
By the way: "you and open flames" is wrong, the booklet says ".. open veins".;)
