He Cried Lyrics

I need you
Simple words
But words which had never been heard
By the soul
Stoned to death
But still living
And so he froze where he stood
And he looked to the ground
And he cried
He cried

Ride our minds
If you must
But there's always a line you don't cross
Time is short
Don't be cruel
Oh you don't know the power
In what you're saying
Oh ...
And so he froze where he stood
And he looked to the ground
And he cried
He cried

People where
I come from
They survive without feelings or blood
I never could
Was stoned to death
But I'm still living
So he froze where he stood
And he looked to the ground
And he cried
He cried

So he froze
And he looked, and he looked
To the ground
And he cried
He cried

I love this song, but what is it about?

To me it sounds like a kid being teased by other kids: "Oh you don't know the power In what you're saying"

Probably not the real meaning, though..

Such a beautiful song, I'm sad that no one has interpereted this yet, so I will attempt to. I think that the soul stoned to death and the person crying is Morrissey himself. In the first part, the person crying is obviously the soul stoned to death and then later Morrissey says that he himself was stoned to death so I think they're one in the same. Also, "Stoned to death but still living" means that he was insulted so much, for whatever reason, that he has died inside. Almost like in 'You Have Killed Me'. The second section is directed towards the people doing the insulting who "don't know the power of what [they're] saying". "Ride our minds if you must" Prehaps the 'our' is gay people, if you want to look at it that way. So maybe he's saying if you must hate, you can keep your hate to yourselves but don't be cruel to people. In the last part I think he's saying that he is a sensitive person coming from a place where people are really insensitive, "They survive without feelings or blood." I think the part about not being cruel is bascially the point of the whole song :)
