This song is not about a relationship, at least to me. It's about a personal journey. It's speaking to someone, or more likely to some part of your own self, and saying, "Find yourself another soul to hold -- Off upon my journey I must go -- to where the River Flows." In other words... you don't get to hang onto me any more... I am going and finding out what I am all about.
"The River" is the river of life, of inspiration, of truth. This song is about getting to that pure, simple, just being and living, not getting hung up in sorrow and pain.
i love the chorus to this song. i don't think there has been a collective soul song that i don't like... they rock! this one is really good live. :)
from just reading the lyrics briefly what I get out of it is some girlfriend who doesn't want to let go after a breakup and he wants it to be over. "Find yourself another soul to hold."

Lines like "Words they only complicate the task", "I'll give you answers To the questions you have yet to ask", "pain is a poison i digest" etc are so good,. in context and alone. The song talks about a bitter person, after maybe a break up or disillusionment.

This song describes how I feel in my opinion. Someone who is being stressed out with life/law and needs to run away from everything and see the beauty in this world and has a personal journey that they feel needs to be fulfilled "To where the river flows", but family/friends are trying to keep them from going on this journey and you try to explain why you feel the way you do. "I'll give you answers, to the questions you have yet to ask" but they dont understand... So you would just wish they would just let you go in peace "Silence is beauty; Words they only complicate the task". You wish they would find someone else to hold onto and keep you from going on this journey. "Find yourself another soul to hold". "Off upon my journey I must go" SOON!
'Gods of the season lead me to my next incident' is scary. Sounds like a serial killer. They REALLY should have put this one on the greatest hits.

i think its just about someone who is upset about something, and is tired of people trying to talk to them about it. they just want to get through it on their own and wants everyone to leave them alone

To me, this song sounds like he's tired of people wishing him well because of his situation. I think he's tired of wishing it would get better and people telling him it would be. He just wants to live his life, whatever comes next. If there's more pain, screw it, just bring it on. It'll happen whether he wants it to or not, so might as well embrace it. If that's the case, I find it VERY relate-able.
