Ammunition Lyrics
Each ridge
And narrow bridge
Each cheveron
Enticing me on
Each warning sign
I take in my stride
I've got more than I can spend
I don't dwell on things I'm missing
I'm just pleased
With the things I've found
An old hand understands
Above all, I know what's
Expected of me now
Veering cliffwards
I've got more than I can spend
I don't dwell on things I'm missing
I'm just pleased
With the things I've found
With the things I've found
With the things I've found
I've found
It comes back on these salient days
And it stays
And it says :
"We've never really been away"
I've got more than I can spend
I don't think of who I'm missing
I've got no space and no time
In my life, anymore
No space or time
In my life, anymore
For Revenge

It's about Moz being sick to death of taking revenge on people he feels have wronged him in his life. The lanes and roads are metaphors for times and memories from his life. He doesn't need anymore ammunition because he decides he's past taking shots at people and being spiteful. Unfortunately he rather walks all over the optimistic message of this song in 'Sorrow Will Come in the End' which ended Maladjusted (the American version anyway)

This song has an inspiring appeal to it. It is optimistic and practical; reminds me of Morrissey walking around a town he knows well and feeling content with where he is in life.

I disagree. I think the sort of bridge bit (i.e. I've been crying...) is very telling and sort of clarifies the meaning of the rest of the song. I think the roads are metaphorical and Morrissey means the paths leading back to the depression he later refers to, as there are often warning signs. The "veering cliffwards" part also supports this.

I agree, this is one of Morrissey's 'well adjusted' songs (ironically placed on an album called Maladjusted). Morrissey is making an effort to look on the sunnier side of life rather then dwelling on the negatives- poor marketing of his albums by record companies, the Mike Joyce lawsuit etc. He does acknowledge that the negatives in his life do indeed hurt him 'I've been crying', but he appears willing to accpet that and not retaliate. However, in a wink and a nod, Morrissey does acknowledge what's accepted of him- biting sacrasm, incendiary social commentary, etc and that he indeed is 'veering cliffward'.
Since this song came out, Morrissey has continued to dutifully execute his role as professional gadfly having criticized the royal wedding and settled scores in his autobiography. But that does not mean that he has not stayed true to the message of this song, it could be that he still publicly 'settles scores' but that these issues do not personally consume him as maybe they have in the past and looks at the bright side of life from time to time. For instance some post Maladjusted Morrissey albums have even contained real 'love' songs - Gads!

Also, Moz said in an interview about this song that it wasn\'t true that he didn\'t need more ammunition, etc.\n\nIn another interview he said he likes cruising.
