I'd Love To Lyrics
Again
I lay awake
And I cried because of waste
I'd love to
But only with you
Only with you
Oh, time is gonna wipe us out
There, I've said it loud and clear
So that you will hear
There's no one in view
Just you
Just you
And time will never wipe you out
Now I've had enough
I've had more than could be
My rightful share
Of nights I can't bear
How can it be fair?
Time must wipe them out
So, again, I lay awake
In a trance
Oh, I just want my chance
But only with you
Only with you
That's all
That's all
I lay awake
And I cried because of waste
But only with you
Only with you
There, I've said it loud and clear
So that you will hear
There's no one in view
Just you
Just you
And time will never wipe you out
Now I've had enough
I've had more than could be
My rightful share
Of nights I can't bear
How can it be fair?
Time must wipe them out
In a trance
Oh, I just want my chance
But only with you
Only with you
That's all
That's all

Well, it reperesents most nights i spend alone. Isn't it werid that there are so many Mozza fans of both sexes who feel the same way and never meet, really shit eh?
I think this song is more of an ache of hidden love. The waste is his love, all the love he can give. But without the acceptance of his love, it goes to waste like unpicked fruit on a tree. All those gifts hes willing to give die in waste. The first time he says "time must wipe us out" I think refers to the idea of him and her together and he cant be having that. With time, that needs to fade because Its not going to happen. Eventually his emotions get out and its clear how he feels. The only person he sees is her. And regardless of what he does, time cant erase how he feels. He will always suffer. In the third verse is where he becomes exhausted. Hanging on trying only leaves him wallowing in the pain that this desire brings. Hes suffered greatly, and to him its becoming too much. Once again he hopes time will release him. In the end though, still all he wants is his chance.
if you've ever been in that dreamy/loved up/besotted state for a person then you really don't want anybody else. In fact the thought of going with anybody else feels weird and a bit wrong. Morrissey is clearly articulating feelings around being in that state, there is one person he wants to be with and there really is nobody else he is interested in.
maybe it should be third line "and i cried because of ways" i think that's better and makes more sense.
i'm convinced this song is about sex. not in a dirty way, but it's common knowledge/suspicion about morrissey's celebacy, and he's saying i'd love to (actually have sex) but only with you. i don;t think he's talking to a specific person but the vision of his dream woman. as in he wants to have sex with the perfect woman. thats wot it means to me anyway.
it is 'waste', I think it says so in the lyric sheet of the compilation My Burglary Years. And IMO it's the opposite, it makes more sense that way. When you are spending every night dreaming of someone and feeling so much love and desire, which remains unconsummated - it is a terrible waste, isn't it?
I think this is a really beautiful, romantic and heartbreaking song, one of the most moving love songs he ever wrote. I can totally relate to it.
My favorite Morrissey song. Sums up everything he is.
I agree with MEATISMURDER. I dont exactly know why but something in the way he sings the lyrics tells me he's talking about sex, or at least about being with somebody, having a relationship.
