Celebrate: Amid the Sound and Light
On a table with friends
Everybody's fine
They're all drinking wine
You fell in love
In a crowded room
Not for the first
But for the thousandth time
CHORUS
So you Celebrate your Love
With a little house
Just made for two
With all the lovely things
You can buy brand new
You gonna settle down
Just the both of you
You gonna be a good soul
From now on....
[Verse 2]
When the sap first rose
Back in the day
You thought you'd play it smart
The trail of broken hearts
You said they won't find you
They won't find you
They won't find you
Just living in a box for two
CHORUS (2x)
So you celebrate your love
[Verse 3]
So when you catch an eye
And your dancing heart
Starts telling you the lies
You're doing it to survive
What else could hurt
So much it makes you cry
CHORUS (3x)
On a table with friends
Everybody's fine
They're all drinking wine
You fell in love
In a crowded room
Not for the first
But for the thousandth time
CHORUS
So you Celebrate your Love
With a little house
Just made for two
With all the lovely things
You can buy brand new
You gonna settle down
Just the both of you
You gonna be a good soul
From now on....
[Verse 2]

it's easy to overlook the "deeper" meaning of this song. I did. But I read about it somewhere (think it was the biography). The song could mean something like this: bunch of friends/crusties/youngsters all getting along nicely, and two of them decide to fall in love, sweet as it may seem. But kinda boring for the gang when they decide to celebrate their love in a box for two, locking themselves in their very own lttle house, secluded etc. Easy mistake to make once you've fallen in love, happens all the time.
I don't think this is one of the angry folk/rock ballads the levellers used to do but it almost equally brilliant. It seems to basically be about love. Great song.
I agree its definately about being in a happy, contented relationship that you think will last for the rest of your life. But the really interesting thing in the song is verse 3 which puts a shadow on this happy image. It reminds you how fickle a relationship can be, and however stong it maybe be it could be broken by either person.
its very sarcastic and a cynical song... not celebrating love.
after reading the biography i think its about being sectioned off into couples which the writer (mark) never wanted to happen, so it isnt as obvious as i first thought
