No Aloha Lyrics

No bye, no aloha
Gone with a rock promoter
A rock promoter
I know, I saw
And now may die

O the treats
Saw it on the wall
Motherhood means mental freeze
(Freezeheads)
No aloha
I know, I saw
And now may die

No bye, no aloha
Gone with a rock promoter
A rock promoter
I know, I saw
And now may die

this great song, released in august of 1993, was written and performed in anticipation of an event that would take place in august 2006:

somebody would make out with a local rock promoter, with whom they were mildly infatuated, and then be abrubtly dropped as their myspace friend.

@moik Myspace and the internet didn't exist in 1994

The song is pretty easy to break down. It's about Kim saying goodbye to having a normal life. It's about how you never say goodbye to the past, you just move on from it without ever realizing it until you're far down the road of life.

It's about how she realized she was never going to be a mother, never going to live like her parents, never going to be Mrs. John Murphy. It's about her being at peace with her life choices. If she were to die, she would have no regrets... Or at least, that's what the "And now may die" line implies.

The following is from Jim Greer's blog (Kim's fiancé in the 90's):

"Trivia for Breeders fans: the line "Motherhood means mental freeze" from the song "No Aloha" on Last Splash (whose full title, by the way, is in fact The Breeders' Last Splash but most people don't bother about that) was taken from graffiti in one of the communal bathrooms that Cro-Mag shared with whatever other artists/artisans/drug dealers that worked out of the Front Street complex. Kim spent a lot of time in the bathroom not because she drank too much beer while recording, although she did drink her share, but because the vocals sounded really good in there, so she made John run a mic down the hall and into the bathroom. The rest of the song is about me."

Well, I had always thought Aloha referred to Franck Black leaving the Pixies. It feels the lyrics were written in the rush of a moment, with light retouching. To me, by far, the very best song of the Breeders. Gosh ! Gone with a rock promo-ter ! *%& !!!

@NDKoba You're right on the money. It was exactly my first thought when I heard it, too. Artist's can't help but add biography to their lyrics.

This is a nice tune that's blended with lyrics regarding Kim's antipathy towards her former bandmate Black Francis (Charles Thompson).
