I think this song represents how some people can outwardly appear to be 'fine' when really they are severely depressed on the inside. Hence the gradual change from 'sueisfine' to 'suicide'. It could also be about denial; how the person is trying to make themself think they're okay when they're not. Or about how the people around that person are not acknowledging that something is wrong.
When you think about someone saying "Now you'll taste so fine" to a woman, it's kind of hilariously lascivious. But when you apply the same sentence to suicide, the song acquires a sweet morbid taste which fits perfectly with the sound of those guitars.
MBV were pretty big into goth rock before Loveless, and I think you can still see a lot of that with Isn't Anything. Although, they were slowly moving away from that sound, the play on sex and death here is so goth rock.
I guess, you could see it as wanting someone you can't have so badly that you want to die. Very morbid, but also very sexual. I'm surprised no one mentioned that.
About a depressed girl named Sue it seems. Over the chorus, Kevin and Melinda slur together the words "Sueisfine" with "suicide", for a chilling effect.
This is another disturbing one to come out of the pre Loveless My Bloody Valentine! Its probably because you cant actually hear what theyre saying on Lovless...
it's interesting to observe that MBV, band who would completely abandon decipherable lyrics a few years later, rely so heavily on the "sueisfine/suicide" world play.
Mmm I don't agree on this, the lyrics on Loveless aren't clear at all and even though the singing is more on the back ground I think the lyrics are still very important on Loveless for creating that 'My Bloody Valentine' vibe.
