Q&A
Untitled Lyrics
Who have I left to please?
Take what you've yet to seize.
No more questioning
'Cause love is what love should be.
Unveil to me all that you want me to do.
But why should I stop bearing allegiance to you?
See, I don't believe in
The sorcerers or the preachers.
I just believe in you.
And I don't believe in
the scholars or the wise men.
I just believe in you.
What have I left to prove?
I speak all the words you choose.
Confine me in walls of truth
'Cause love does what love should do.
No more sentence.
All of my pain has been freed.
Why should this end when your
mercy's all I need?
See, I don't believe in
The sorcerers or the preachers.
I just believe in you.
And I don't believe in
The scholars or the wise men.
I just believe in you.
Take what you've yet to seize.
No more questioning
'Cause love is what love should be.
Unveil to me all that you want me to do.
But why should I stop bearing allegiance to you?
See, I don't believe in

It is "Untitled" because nobody knows the name of God. God is undefinable. VERY intentional title by Ed.
man that's why the title "untitled" works. According to the Bible, his name is Jehovah. Quran, its Allah. Different reigions different names. Ed uses the lyrics "I don't believe in the sorcerers or the preachers" Those are the people who give God a name.
I interpret this song as a being a personal relationship with God outside of any structure. Any person can have a relationship with God regardless of what they call him - hence the title is "untitled" to prevent deterring any person from relating to it.
This is a pretty clear theistic song. They are asserting their belief in God as He has revealed Himself, not as people have taught about Him. It is not their miracles or sweet words that have earned their faith, but rather the existence of God has prompted belief.
Basically, you guys are spot on about what this song's about, but just to delve into it a bit deeper. It's about having your own personal relationship with some sort of higher being outside the influence of organized religion. The song is untitled for a reason, because "God" can not have a name, "God" is something we can not possibly hope to understand as human beings. This song transcends those boundaries and outlines that theme very specifically. The angst and heavy riffs in the music define that quite clearly.
You don't need to call yourself a "Christian" or "Muslim" or "Jew" to have spirituality and a relationship with god, and you definitely don't need organized religion telling you how to believe. Ed shows us that with these words here.
Ed Roland did an interview with Variety recently. He talked about spirituality being in his lyrics, but not as a believer:\n\n"Lyrically, there’s spirituality sprinkled in, just because of how I was raised — not because of what I believe in."\n\n"Dad, I believe in the separation of church and rock ’n roll."\n\nSpecifically about Untitled:\n\nVariety: \'Was the line “I don’t believe in preachers” (from “Untitled”) a dig at your dad?\'\n\nRoland: \'Not at all. I just wanted everybody to believe in themselves.\'\n\nIt could be that the "you" in Untitled is Ed talking to himself in second person or to someone else as a form of encouragement, rather than being god.\n\nHere\'s the rest of his response:\n\n\'My first memories with me and my pops is, he took me to see a Johnny Cash show, to see Liberace, The Kinks, Elton John, the Eagles. My father had a beautiful voice, and was actually supposed to sing opera in Italy. And then, him and God had a talk, and he figured something out how he wanted to do his life. … I remember I could hear him talking to mom, they were gonna have some record burning night somewhere in the south. And he said, “I can’t do it.” Dude, I was only like 15 at the time, but I’d already told them I was gonna be a songwriter. I didn’t know I’d be in a band, but he knew my love of music, and he respected it. He goes, “I will not be a part of that.” And I remember thinking: that’s cool. That’s a good sign of support of what I wanted to do in life.\'\n\nhttps://variety.com/2020/music/news/collective-souls-world-i-know-ed-roland-interview-1234728913/
Also, \'Why did you leave the song “Untitled” untitled?\' \'Because I just ran out of words, dude.\'\r\n\r\nSorry for the bad formatting in the previous post.

What I think is unusual about this song is that they couldn't come up with a "title." So they called it "Untitled." Which is sorta like responding No Comment to a reporter's question. "No comment" is a comment, and "Untitled" is a title! Heh heh...
There are many titles that would have been appropriate for this song. "Untitled" seems to be quiet intentional?
God does have a name. It is "Jehovah" Please look up Psalms 83:18 to see for yourself. If you find God's name has been replaced by "Lord" or "God" ask Jehovah's Witnesses why churches today have done so, next time they are calling around your area.
I believe that in this song they are verifying their belief in God, but are not too sure what else they have to do for him.
SHINE. the Hit song from first album..is a modern Gospel song ...if the Lyrics means as much to this song as It does in SHINE..Possibly another Moderen Gospel Song....speaking positive about our Lord...and by naming song leaves it up to YOU to name It.....Untitled. ...is simaler to Joe Walsh's Hit album early in career...YOU BOUGHT IT...YOU NAME IT
