Betrayal Is A Symptom

when i first heard these lyrics, i thought it was some sort of hint that dustin was turning from his religion or something. but.. it isn't. oh well. i'll just post what he wrote to me.

Actually, the first step in becoming a Christian, is to realize that you are a sinner. Being honest with yourself and your heart is key to having a meaningful relationship with God.

In this case, the angels are metaphors for anything good or pure, and the corruption of them is sin. The "isn't it sweet" is meant to be be darkly sarcastic, basically showing disgust for the human propensity to stumble, and to be imperfect. Not really much an uplifting song, but it is more for me a picture of what my sin is, and a reminder that I hate it. Hopefully it will serve as a picture of that to others who believe that wrong and right are not conventions of society.

About all the lyrics on the album being darker, i believe this quote from Edgar Allen Poe sums up the reasoning behind it.

"There are chords in the hearts of the most reckless, which cannot be touched without emotion."

Just because its not labeled as a christian band doesn't mean that the band members and the person who writes the song isn't. There are alot of secular bands that have christian band members.....Lifehouse, P.O.D., MxPx, etc. So Mluh....dont judge, you cannot honestly say that you know what the song means. Only the writer can knows that.

I find it odd that Dusitn sent a summary of the song meaning as he wrote them. On Thrice's website, there's a thing in the faq about them not posting song lyrics because they want people to figure out the song meanings for themselves.

Whatever the meaning of the lyrics, I still like the song for its musical content. But that's just me. The lyrics are pretty deep stuff, so I just take whatever I get out of it and enjoy listening to it. Although I do find it hard to read the lyrics and not wonder what they had in mind when the song was created. One of the reasons why Thrice is so damn good.

OK listen to me i am only gonna say this once...THIRCE ISNT A CHRISTIAN BAND - TRUE...BUT 50 % of the Illusion Of Safety has christian ties. Deadbolt, is all christian...a christian band is a band that sings about the beliefs of the religion of chritianity...ie Creed...now stop argueing about thirce being a christian band...they arent...dustin is a christian ...thats obvious

Just beacause someone talks about god doesn't make them christian, GOD, oh no now im a christian. they could be agnostic......DeAdBoLt has some points some songs are definatly about god but not all of them. anywho great song long live thrice

why are ppl so opposed to the idea of thrice having christian influences... religion is a philosophy of living and thrice writes songs about life and its struggles and the two are well connected

deadbolt??? are you a christian? because you say that thrice is or isnt...make yourself more clear. this is my alltime most favorite thrice as you can see by my name... and i too believe that just because thrice isnt a christian band doesnt mean that dustin or the other members arent christians...come on now
