Saturday Night Lyrics

Oooooh oooh!
Whoa oh oh oh!
Noooo oh oh!

There's 52 ways to murder anyone
One and two are the same
And they both work as well
I'm coming clean for Amy
Julie doesn't scream as well
And the cops won't listen all night
And so maybe I'll be over
Just as soon as I fill them all in

And I can't remember when I saw her last
We were running around and having a blast, having a blast
But the backseat of the drive-in is so lonely without you
I know when you're home

I was thinking about you
There was something I forgot to say
I was crying on Saturday night
I was out cruising without you
They were playing our song
Crying on Saturday night

As the moon becomes the night time
You go viciously, quietly away
I'm sitting in the bedroom, where we used to sit and smoke cigarettes
Now I'm watching, watching you die (oh oh oh)

I can't remember when I saw her last
We were running around and having a blast
But the backseat (backseat) of the drive-in (drive-in)
Is so lonely without you
I know when you're home

I was thinking about you
There was something I forgot to say
I was crying on Saturday night
I was out cruising without you
They were playing our song
Crying on Saturday night

Yeah!
Crying on Saturday night
Crying.... on Saturday.... night!

"There's 52 ways to murder anyone" - There are (usually) 52 Saturdays in a year the person in the song could be dating and killing, we're inclined to think women, on Saturday nights. Maybe in his time killing he has murdered 52 different women 52 different ways.

One and two are the same, and they both work as well" - All methods he's used so far have achieved desired results. (the women die)

"I'm coming clean for Amy" - I think Amy was one of his victims whom he totally fell in love with.

"Julie doesn't scream as well" - After Amy he could not find any fulfillment in his victim(s) during the normal routine. Julie could represent 1-51 other women.

"and the cops won't listen all night." - Perhaps he is only confessing for Amy, or for a select few other victims because the cops won't listen to him(they totally would for 52 murders, so maybe he has killed tons of people this line is kinda strange)

"And so maybe I'll be over just as soon as i fill them all in" - his murdering escapade will be over once the cops have been filled in good and proper.

Next few lines are reminiscing on Amy with some juicy 50s horror allusions thrown in. Chorus - No longer dating and killing on Saturday night, he breaks into tears as he remembers his brief time with Amy, regretting not telling her of his true feelings for her before she died.

"As the Moon becomes the night time you go viciously, quietly away, I'm sitting in the bedroom: where we used to sit and smoke cigarettes. Now I'm watching you die." - His final moments with Amy. Gotta love that smokin' cigarettes in the bedroom like 50s youth feeling you get here. I dunno how you could think this song isn't about killing anyone, It's possible Graves wanted to write a song about regret due to some love problems he had in his life, and due to being in the misfits threw in the 50s horror theme into the song. Truth may never be known but this song definately involves a serial killer. My two cents, cheers.

Edit: "and the cops won't listen all night." I like the theory some dude said back there, this is sarcasm.

Great explanation! I have never really thought about what the lyrics mean until now and it's very dark. Glad you made it so clear. =P

@TheBrigand Best meaning that ive seen here nice :)

I'm sorry guys but you are all SOOO wrong about this song! He didn't kill anyone. "There are 52 ways to murder anyone", he means there are 52 ways to break anyones heart."One and two are the same", like cheating or falling out of love they hurt just as much. He is coming clean for amy because he used to love her, just like he used to love julie, but amy was the one he was really in love with but he messed it up and is now in love with someone else. However, the girl he is now in love with doesn't want him because he hurt her too. But he says "maybe he'll be over once he fills them all in", all of them are the graves he speaks of earlier, but it's a metaphor for ending his relationships for good with all of these other girls. And so he's "crying on a saturday night.", " the backseat of the drive in is so lonely without you." because he wants to be with this new girl.

I agree with horrore, love this song, one of the few that I really enjoy by graves, the more I listen to it the more I hear the pain in his voice and the creepiness of the whole song makes me love it more.

I'm pretty sure this is about a psychopath that kills his girlfriends (or his dates). The words "I know when you're home" indicates he stalks his victims, and "the cops won't listen all night" seems to indicate he was having sex inside of his car, at the drive in, before killing his girl. Misfits is great at creating such an atmosphere like in this song, of a ballad with smooth lyrics but they're actually talking about murder.

My Interpretation

i think its about him losing someone (and or killing her) and is regreting it because he misses her...pretty touching for misfits

I deff. think its about him loving this girl so much that in the end he kills her. And now he misses her and regrets it so much that he wishes he could take it back. This is one of The Misfits best songs and has very powerful lyrics. It really makes you feel when you listen to this song. I love it

i think that one part Rotten is like hes saying he is trying to admit his problems to "amy" about killing julie and the cops are stupid in the night (in my opinion) and he is telling her that he might be over later just as soon as he tells everyone his problems... this song to me is about trying to over come the addiction or just admit what you have done wrong in the past.

Sure,It talks about killing julie, but it seems like it relates to anyone who's ever ended a relatinship and regreted it. "I was thinking about you, there was something I forgot to say. I was crying on saturday night."

I am planning to make a music video of this song... with two of my friends. One of them will be playing guitar in it (in the background) and the other will be singing / main character/

I am thinking about not trying to make the video too specific... meaning i wont include murder in the vid.

half of it will be them "playing/singing" and during the chorus it will be shots of the guy driving and singing...

What do you think?

BTW I think both Danzig and Graves kicked @ss... and Jerry Only needs vocal lessons...

Put murder in the video, this is misfits remember? ;)
