Clean Lyrics
Am I pretty enough for you
Now that my ribs show through?
With a little makeup I can look brand new
But can I be prettyenough for you?
Fill me with secrets and I'll never tell
Fatten me up, and I'll feed you well
You can polish me perfectly and I'll shine pristine
Not even a cherub is this clean
Am I all that you'd hoped that I would be
Hanging on obediently
To the words that I'm finding so hard to believe?
Am I all that you d hoped that I would be?
(Chorus)
Why don't you just stop me if I'm sounding ungrateful
Why don't you stop me if I'm coming on a bit too strong
(Chorus)
Now that my ribs show through?
With a little makeup I can look brand new
But can I be prettyenough for you?
Fatten me up, and I'll feed you well
You can polish me perfectly and I'll shine pristine
Not even a cherub is this clean
Hanging on obediently
To the words that I'm finding so hard to believe?
Am I all that you d hoped that I would be?
Why don't you stop me if I'm coming on a bit too strong

I think that this song is pertaining to how society makes people feel now. Everytime you look in a magazine you see someones ribs showing through .. or wearing a lot of makeup. It is just a person saying that they have had enough of it. If anyone else sees something else I would love to hear it.
Not always society, sometimes people individually, like in a relationship where you have the short end of the stick. There's rebellion there, but it's a bit interesting that there isn't complete withdrawl from the conversation of the bad relationship. I don't know if that's particularly meaningful.
One of Matt's most cohesive bits of writing. While I like the CD version, I wish something a bit more in line with his live performances of that era had been documented.
I haven't heard this song, but the lyrics are really good! From personal experience, it's amazing how differently people treat you when you loose weight, or something like that. I remember Matt saying at a show that he used to be a chubby kid, so it might be about that. It kind of makes you not trust people.
