I think this song is about how he wanted a girl really badly and fell for her "you got me now", even though she didn't love him. However, things started to change over time. He can't remember how they changed, they just did and now the girl that he could never have "you looked like everything I wanted" was the girl he had and probably should have never had to begin with (And as you came along, slowly everything began to change, I've got you now).
And now that he has her, he needs to let her go, it's time to give her back. To me the first and last paragraphs are the ones that really drive the song home...I need to know if you were real (reflecting)...almost as if he can't believe any of this really happened. As his vision fades, he'll blame it on her eyes...probably the same eyes that got him to begin with.
That's my interrpration anyway...I've listened to this song 1000x, it fits a piece of my life that I have a tough time placing my finger on...but this song somehow describes the way I feel about it PERFECTLY (music and lyrics).
I think this song is about someone who regretted what they let themselves fall into...n even tho they cant change it or take it bak theyre still saying "I wanna give u back"......theyre sayin the person they fell in love with wasnt what who they thought.......i dk
k well i totally love this song...its like...hes saying...heck what IS he saying... he wants to know if the girl really did love him, because it seemed like it, and then suddenly it seemed like she didnt and he is confused...then he looks back and realize how horrible the relationship was and goes, why did i do that?? did that make sense?

i luv this song, n its especially powerful wen theres a backstory 2 support it. Hauntingly beautiful n bitter at d same time...dunno how 2 put it...resonant? to me, he seem 2 b still in love with her even though he knows hes been fooled, in a helpless kinda of way, d song jst sound so sad n mournful. dat girl sure is keeping him on d edge~lol
btw, by backstory i mean like using it in a songfic or 2 apply it 2 a real situation, makes it more meaningful 2 d individual...
