I kinda took it as, he's been with girls the "layers" that have hurt him.. and he's with a chick now who he's having problems with.. adding another "layer" but still loves her?
its about a lost relationship...time is meant to heal, but sometimes even that doesn't seem to help. he's ready to move on, but it's hard to erase the past.
