Go To The Mirror Lyrics
Go To The Mirror (From Tommy)
-The Who
He seems to be completely unreceptive
The tests I gave him show no sense at all
His eyes react to light, the dials detect it
He hears but cannot answer to your call
See me, feel me, touch me, heal me
See me, feel me, touch me, heal me
There is no chance, no untried operation
All hope lies with him and none with me
Imagine, though, the shock from isolation
When he suddenly can hear and speak and see
See me, feel me, touch me, heal me
See me, feel me, touch me, heal me
His eyes can see, his ears can hear, his lips speak
All the time the needles flick and rock
No machine can give the kind of stimulation
Needed to remove his innerblock
Go to the mirror, boy
Go to the mirror, boy
I often wonder what he's feeling
Has he ever heard a word I've said?
Look at him, in the mirror dreaming
What is happening in his head?
Listening to you, I get the music
Gazing at you, I get the heat
Following you, I climb the mountains
I get excitement at your feet
Right behind you, I see the millions
On you, I see the glory
From you, I get opinions
From you, I get the story
What is happing in his head?
Oo, I wish I knew, I wish I knew.
The tests I gave him show no sense at all
His eyes react to light, the dials detect it
He hears but cannot answer to your call
See me, feel me, touch me, heal me
All hope lies with him and none with me
Imagine, though, the shock from isolation
When he suddenly can hear and speak and see
See me, feel me, touch me, heal me
All the time the needles flick and rock
No machine can give the kind of stimulation
Needed to remove his innerblock
Go to the mirror, boy
Has he ever heard a word I've said?
Look at him, in the mirror dreaming
What is happening in his head?
Gazing at you, I get the heat
Following you, I climb the mountains
I get excitement at your feet
On you, I see the glory
From you, I get opinions
From you, I get the story
Oo, I wish I knew, I wish I knew.

kinda irrelevant, but seeing jack nicholson sing this in the movie is really funny.
This is my favorite song off of the Tommy album. Even though the song is basically going along with the story, I think that it has a deeper meaning, too. When I listen to the song, I think that things can change for the better sometimes. When the song gets to "Listening to you, I get the music..." I get chills. I just love listening to this song.
If you read the lyrics, You pretty much can figure out what the song is about(That is if you know the Tommy storyline)
One thing I thought of though, Is that wouldn't Tommy's parents know his deaf, dumb and blindness were mental, Becuase it was only after they told him "You didn't see anything, You didn't hear anything, Don't tell anyone" that Tommy went into his condition.
Although, Perhaps their guilt would be blocking their logic.
The condition is called Conversion Disorder, I learned about it in Psychology last year, so I brought in Tommy-he Movie and we watched it. Anyways, I don't know if they knew about Conversion Disorder back then, and even is they knew it was mental, they wouldn't know the trigger that would set him free.
I love the ending to all of the Doctor's parts. They're all amazing
"He hears but cannot answer to your call" "When he suddenly can hear and speak and see"
It's also semi-tragic, mainly because I believe that TOmmy's father has serious guilt about what he did in 1921, and he wants to help Tommy. So yes Gustavus, I think Tommy's father sees the relationship between the murder and Tommy's condition
I love this song, I havent watch the movie yet. Yeah, if you read it, you'll get your interpretation
I have to agree very belatedly with misirlou. I love the song and Jack Nicholson is actually a surprisingly good singer... but he just keeps making rape-eyes at the camera and I can't stop laughing.
agreed, this song is my favorite off tommy.
the movie version is really bad compared to the alubm, but still okay.. it's such a good song to start off anyway.
so simple, but the lyrics and the "See me feel me" part is amazing.
LISTEN to the live at leeds version. it's mindblowing.
In response to Gustavus and mainxzibit6789: Tommy's mother would know what caused Tommy's illness. His father, however, returned home and immediately killed his wife's boyfriend, causing Tommy's loss of senses. He would only know that Tommy was born with sight, hearing and speech if his wife told him. Under the circumstances, it is possible that out of guilt, Mrs Walker would have told him that Tommy had always been like that.
This is definitely one if my most favorite songs on Tommy. It’s that guitar riff, I just cannot get enough of it.
