The Man Who Told Everything Lyrics
Get out of bed, pick up the phone,
time to tell the press
Say to myself, I can't do no one else,
there's a whole world outside
I'm gonna tell it all, I'm gonna sell it all, I'm gonna sell
Get out of bed, come out and sing
blue skies ahead, the man who told everything
And I feel like I'm losing my head,
I didn't mean to stay
Lives have been wrecked
and I've picked up my cheque,
catch a plane out of here
I'm gonna get out of here, I'm gonna get out of here, I'm gonna sell
Get out of bed, come out and sing
blue skies ahead, the man who told everything
time to tell the press
Say to myself, I can't do no one else,
there's a whole world outside
blue skies ahead, the man who told everything
I didn't mean to stay
Lives have been wrecked
and I've picked up my cheque,
catch a plane out of here
blue skies ahead, the man who told everything

A beautiful song, but I think the meaning goes a little deeper than just as a theme song for the Real World.
To me, "I'm gonna tell it all" is basically him admitting to himself and everyone else that it's over. Once you tell the press, there is no going back.
The lyrics seem to convey a sense of hope with his new situation, but it doesn't sound very upbeat or hopeful at all. His comments on singing with "blue skies ahead" seem to be laced with depressed sarcasm. What he's basically saying is, "I'll be ok, I just need to get away from here." There doesn't seem to be much hope in that, just someone searching for answers, maybe escaping from his problems, hoping that they don't follow him. Anyways, just my own, very personal take on it.
This song is really beautiful, gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it.
I agree with okteds all the way, that's such an accurate analysis :)
awesome song, very sad
Halloween 2025. I'm listening to it today. I first listened to it upon it's release, 25 years ago. This album has such special place in my heart.
[Edit: Spelling mistake]
i love this song so much, although it will forever remind me of Aneesa from Real World XI: Chicago... but that's cuz they played this song when she was in the confession room, and that's the first time I heard it, and I fell in love with it!!!
that's where i first heard it too -- the real world chicago, it's kind of a sad song though.. =/
I think its from the point of view of a journalist who realises that "lives have been wrecked" from what he does. ace song though. the violins on the single version were heartbreaking.
Heartbreaking..
I love every part of this song Everything is so perfectly fitted.. i dunno.. just so awesome!
This is one of my all-time favourite songs. It's crushing in it's fragility.
