do you remember?
do you remember?
that night at context
making up shit
like we were animals
we made no sense
no sense
we had no sex
can you see, can you see?
can you see?
can you see, can you see?
can you see?
the moon is so hollow
what's the use?
when I can see right
through you
what's the use?
all the hearts that touch your cheek
how they jump they move they embarrass
all the hearts that touch your cheek
how they jump they move they embarrass
they make no sense
no sense, no sense, no sense
we had no sex o-ho-hoo
do you remember?
that night at context
making up shit
like we were animals
we made no sense
no sense
we had no sex
can you see?
can you see, can you see?

no sense, no sense, no sense
we had no sex o-ho-hoo

One of her most powerful songs
This sounds like a girl recollecting a drunken night where a guy claimed to have had sex with her or hooked up with her, but really, they didin't have sex at all. He just wants wants people to think they did, or maybe she's just denying they did to save herself from embarrassment. Either way, one of these people is in denial of the truth.
and the lyrics are "that night IN context"
I think the entire song is about recalling a relationship, and its natural progression. The lines "the moon is so hollow, what's the use/ when I can see right through you, what's the use?" remind me of the point in a relationship where you can tell when the other person is bluffing so to speak. You know when they're pretending, or what their true intentions are at this point.
My favorite lines in it: "All the hearts that touch your cheek- how they jump, they move, they embarrass" reminds me of the actual progression of a relationship that I mentioned before. In the beginning your heart "Jumps" with excitement, then as the relationship furthers you "Move" with it and with the other person, then finally, when you reach that stage when you feel like there's no point in being in the relationship anymore, you "Embarrass" because before you were so blind and naive.
There are more parts to it, but I was mainly moving off of that last quote which inspired my interpretation.
Also I like the fact that she calls lips "hearts" in that line. As if when you kiss someone you are touching them with your heart, I suppose that relates to the facade of it all.
I like your interpretation. and in this especific part ''what's the use when I can see right through you'' i think it's not only about recognizing when a person lies to you, or what are the true intentions, but also losing the excitement of not knowing what the person is thinking, or what it is willing to do. it's like not being surprise anymore, no way. losing charm. when dialogue turns unecessary because you already know what the other one is going to say.

"all the hearts that touch your cheek"
Other girls that have fallen for that guy? I'm not sure.. that's what I'm interpreting it as?
this song is so good. this cd is so perfect.
Have you considered that no sex could mean no gender? "we had no sex" is kind of an awkward phrasing. Normally you would say something like 'we didn't have sex' or 'there was no sex'. Just a thought.
This song seems to be about when the 'honeymoon period' of a relationship ends, and couples argue and have drunken fights. It's probably about the break-down of Chan's relationship with Bill Callahan. In fact Moon Pix is apparently a 'break-up' album.
Also, I thought the lyrics are 'night contest' rather than context.
I don't know why you got negative points before, I totally agree. It seems like a fight in which the other person is lying but she can see right through them (as she knows them so well). And night and contest make much more sense--like she's comparing a fight to a lying competition.

I understand the song as about a meaningless date. The two have nothing interesting to talk about, so they make up shit "like animals", that makes "no sense". She is wondering what the point is, in a conversation with a guy that she can see right through, and just wants to sleep with her. Unlike most girls who jump, move and embarrass themselves by talking shit, she doesn't, and she doesn't have sex with him either. GO HER!! the guy needs to think of something interesting to say if he wants to sleep with Chan!
I think it's about Chan's experience with someone she wanted to have intimacy with who was too shy or self conscious to do so, its her grappling with that imo.
