Not Too Amused Lyrics
What was that you just said?
That didn't make any sense to me
It's not the way I see it, man
I'm almost tired of listening to you
Why do you tie me up with words?
The way your eye shifts makes me wanna go
Black-jawed living room couch professor
When will you be through with me? I'd like to know
Everywhere I go I feel it
But I won't talk, I won't get stuck with you
Everyone's so lonely I dig it
But I'm afraid I can't share this with you
So don't make me your captive
I don't feel like talking your shit
I nod my broken head
I'm not too amused with humans
That didn't make any sense to me
It's not the way I see it, man
I'm almost tired of listening to you
Why do you tie me up with words?
The way your eye shifts makes me wanna go
Black-jawed living room couch professor
When will you be through with me? I'd like to know
Everywhere I go I feel it
But I won't talk, I won't get stuck with you
Everyone's so lonely I dig it
But I'm afraid I can't share this with you
So don't make me your captive
I don't feel like talking your shit
I nod my broken head
I'm not too amused with humans

agreed!!!! wicked song, great build up. i think its about this person, who obviously has problems, but will not talk about them, and therefore - he wont accept them. the bit with "Black-jawed living room couch professor" refers to a councellor or interrogater figure, but is a metaphor for maybe someone close to him who is pushing him for speach. the lyrics have an extremely depressive tone to them, with a large sense of worthlessness "not too amused with humans". depressants often resort to thinking on a large scale like this. also, the first line - "What was that you just said? That didn't make any sense to me" shows he is preoccupied with his thoughts and is perhaps dillusional.
The song is about being fed up with stupid people in my opinion. This song totally hit me one day when I was sitting in class and just listening to people rattling off half-assed opinions, or just their whole existence being futile.
not too amused with the immaturity/ignorance of humans?
"i nod my broken head"..there's no point in trying to instill ideas/influence these people....just nod at the stupid shit they say that you probably dont even agree with..
Wow finally someone who gets it, lol.

I think this and "Not a Friend" have basically the same idea. You don't want to be friends with this person, but you're too cowardly/"nice" to tell them to fuck off. Yeah it's selfish and kinda mean, but it's the truth.

It's an awkward non-friendship anthem.

I can't believe no one has commented this song is awesome sebadoh rox my sox.
the meaning is kind of confusing what i get out of it is a person that does not want to take shit from that other person anymore,
Sounds to me like someone asked the narrorator to see a therapist about his cynicism, and he begrudgingly agreed.
The rest of the song is him being belligerent to the therapist, ("It's not the way I see it, man) to straight up being angry at and insulting the therapist who's trying to understand him ("The way your eyes shift makes me wanna go." "Black Jawed living room couch professor" --- his black jaw being reference to his beard and the therapist couch)
Ultimately, the narrarator refuses to really share with the therapist, believing it will make him more reliant on him, like other people ("I won't get stuck with you." "Everyone's so lonely, I dig it").
He nods his head to the therapist to shut him up, but the cynicism ultimately remains.
i'm also impressed that such a great song has had no comments so far. Well, in my opinion this song might be about a guy complitely controled by (man/girl?)someone who always puts him down. In this lyric it seems he is in a torture session.
BANG!
I could picture Jason telling Lou to shut up, but I wouldn't know for sure. Maybe someone in the family. A big brother or father figure, or maybe just an old ''friend''.
There's something he doesn't want to talk about. Something bad happened. And this person goes on and on. The way he keeps it to himself makes it even more worrying and the music build-up reflects that. That last line drives it home that he's pissed off about something, and in general.
Always thought it was "slack-jawed". As in, stoned at the bakesale.
i've been told this song is about j mascis.
