Fall Out Lyrics

I never follow leaders
I've got my own machine
And I've paid my dues all along
Always set to break it
When I mix with other people
'Cause I knew that I was really alone

Fall out
Fall out with all the leaders and gangs
Fall out
Fall out with all the leaders and gangs

I saw my education
It was my indoctrination
Just to be another kind of machine
Always set to break it
When I mix with other people
'Cause I knew that I was not very clean

Fall out
Fall out with all the leaders and gangs
Fall out
Fall out with all the leaders and gangs

Fall out
Fall out with all the leaders and gangs
Fall out
Fall out with all the leaders and gangs

Fall out

The above are the most commonly reported lyrics, but IMHO they don't make much sense here and there. Here is another version which I've read somewhere and convinces me a lot more. It also may be possible that the early Police, in the spirit of punk, changed the words slightly from gig to gig. It's a song about non-belonging and feeling a dropout.

What do you think?

@FridayChild These lyrics are definitely what are used on the Message in a Box recording.

@FridayChild This makes so much more sense.

@FridayChild Almost correct! The Correct lyrics: ~Fall Out~ [Verse 1] I never follow leaders, I’ve got my own machine, And I've paid my dues all along! Always set to break it, When I mix with other people, 'Cause I knew that I was really alone!

[Chorus] Fall out, Fall out with all the leaders of gangs! Fall out, Fall out with all the leaders and gangs!

[Verse 2] I saw my education! It was my indoctrination! Just to be another kind of machine! Always set to break it, When I mix with other people! 'Cause I knew that I was not very clean!...

I think it's about being 'a fallout'. The person which the song is about is probably a kind of anarchist type and is not a 'normal' behaved type.

“Just to be another cog in the machine” doesn’t fit the meter. The verse is “Just to be another kind of machine” (other than his own) . And he’s got his “own machine”, not: “no machine”
