Nobody Lyrics
Heartaches, on your wedding day
double takes when they look my way
knees quake, there ain't a shotgun in the place
you like the frostin', you just bought the cake
your eyes can't fake
still in love with nobody
and I won't tell nobody
The bridegroom
drags you 'cross that room
said I do
but honey you were just a kid
your eyes said I did
still in love with nobody
nobody, nobody
and I won't tell nobody
Take a look
on your wedding night
in your wedding book
see what name I signed
hey
love nobody,
nobody, nobody
then nobody
nobody, nobody, nobody
repeat
Hips shake
to the band for old times sake
now you make your get away
and you're waving to the stage
but on the last page says
love nobody
nobody, nobody
and I won't tell nobody
nobody, nobody
that you're still in love with nobody
nobody, nobody
and I used to be nobody
nobody, nobody
anymore

I think it's more like he was a secret lover that she couldn't tell about, maybe because he has no money, education or whatever, so he used to be nobody. And he showed up at her wedding where no one expected him and sign her wedding book as love nobody noting frustation and rage
This song is about a guy that goes to an old flames wedding. She is still in love with him but must have dicked him over at some point. When she looks in the wedding book for his signature she couldn't find it. He signed "Nobady" . "That you're still in love with nobody and I used to be nobody"... But not anymore.
Can you say one of the best songwriters of all time?
I can say it. I say it all the time. And there is no argument. PAUL WESTERBERG IS ONE OF THE BEST SONGWRITERS OF ALL TIME. There. I said it. ;-))))) I'll say it again if you'd like...
sweet...but a little bad a$$
The song is more bitter than it first appears. The key line is "you like the frosting, you just bought the cake". Maybe she married for money instead of love? Whatever it is, the protagonist is hurt, unhappy, and wants to rub it in a bit.
