Sixteen Blue Lyrics
Drive yourself right up the wall
No one hears and no one calls
It's a boring state
It's a useless wait, I know
Brag about things you don't understand
A girl and a woman, a boy and a man
Everything is sexually vague
Now you're wondering to yourself
THAT you might be gay
Your age is the hardest age
Everything drags and drags
One day, baby, maybe help you through
Sixteen blue
Sixteen blue
Drive your ma to the bank
Tell your pa you got a date
You're lying, now you're lying on your back
Try to figure out, they wonder what next you'll pull
You don't understand anything sexual
I don't understand
Tell my friends I'm doing fine
Your age is the hardest age
Everything drags and drags
You're looking funny
You ain't laughing, are you?
Sixteen blue

This is song is the quintessential 80's teenage song. It's a John Hughes film wrapped up in 4:24. The lyrics come out better on the remastered version, thus i think it is state/wait... and your age is the hardest hit.
John Huges would give his testicles to ever write anything this poignant and ture. It is 'boring state' and 'useless wait' (or weight? gotta love Wesrterbergian phrases that can have more than one meaning) and the lyrics are correct, it is 'your age is the hardest age' age can sort of (in a PW way) rhyme with drag - at least better than hit. Bob's guitar at the end still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it, and I have heard it about a million times...
Everything drags and drags
still at 17 too!
basically i think this song is perfect for conveying the confusion and awkwardness of being sixteen. you've just got all of this new freedome and responsiblity and it feels good but it sort of scares you and you dont know what to do with it or how to feel. the worst part is you can't talk to anyone about it because you dont know if they feel the same. being sixteen is very lonely
Right on ….this is absolutely John Hughes-esque. But was it Uncle Buck or Weird Science that tackled teenage homosexuality so directly? (Chet wasn’t gay, was he?) Come on… did you even listen to this mister mister? Nudge..Nudge.. everything is sexually vague
This song is most definitely about realizing you're not straight just when everyone's starting to get horny in high school, then waiting and waiting for the right time to come out--your parents say "oh it's just a phase, what are you gonna pull next? You don't understand sexuality, you're just confused" etc. You can't tell most or any of your friends because it'll make them feel uncomfortable around you. So you drag out letting people know who you really are because of the social pressures that are so intense at sixteen, as shown in the tragically high suicide rates among LGBT teens
