No haven will embrace you
no harbor keeps you safe
your comrades will desert you
no tower reaches heaven
no fortress stands to last
your desire makes you weak
No science will be mastered
no truth is absolute
your children won't lament you
no wisdom can be trusted
no glory lasts forever
our wishes wont be granted
Like torches in the aeon flow
even suns flick and die
forgotten as the ages grow
eternity is not for you
no harbor keeps you safe
your comrades will desert you
no tower reaches heaven
no fortress stands to last
your desire makes you weak
no truth is absolute
your children won't lament you
no wisdom can be trusted
no glory lasts forever
our wishes wont be granted
even suns flick and die
forgotten as the ages grow
eternity is not for you

Another Covenant classic:
No hope. No divine intervention. Your life and your happiness is left to your own actions. Expect no one to help you. You are here for just a brief period of time and your only obligation is to realize that the only purpose for your existance is to give, without expecting anything in return.
No one lives forever.
But the world and its inhabitants will, if we who are blessed with intelligence realize that life is greater than all things that it contains. We are insignificant as individuals, but immortal as parts of the universe.
Everything ends, everything dies, nothing is constant. If you believe this, then there is very little that is scary in the world. Even the monsters of the world will go away with time, their legacy forgotten.
'even suns flick and die' - our religions are 'sun-god' based - but even the gods are mortal, I see this as a stab at all religions. And no matter what type of believe or technology (wisdom), we acquire we are mortal. 'our wishes wont be granted' is our desire for immortality. 'no tower reaches heaven' - our first attempt to join the gods (Babel)...
@Random8 Sun God-based?? gimme a reference point please

@Random8 I would more take that as an example of something even as big and long lasting as the sun eventually dies ... our lives by relation are minuscule in time!

@jaughn1150 may be that they mean most religions suggest that the Gods created the sun as a source for life??

@sokorny as does science...

@jaughn1150 true (although the sun wasn't created for life, it just the conditions for life). I was more thinking of traditional religions, and the interesting stories that they tell about the creation of the world, sun, sky etc.

Oh wow after 10 years someone comments :) - thx guys, i guess we all have our options on the "meaning" of this...
@sokorny - i agree with your comment "our lives by relation are minuscule in time!" and totally agree .. But i thi k the song is trying to say that and more ...
@jaughn1150 - I hear what your saying and your correct , that is part of what the song is saying ...
But I stand strong that covenant is taking about religion here ... I'll quote some lyrics and you decide ....
"no heaven will embrace you" <this is the opening lyric of the song, i think it sets the tone >
"no tower reaches heaven" <clearly a reference to the tower of babel - found first in the writings of the Sumerians then later in the bybel>
"eternity is not for you" <only religions promise eternity, BUT like suns (that have life spans of millions of years, even they die ... so what does that say about the promise of heaven/eternal life...>
"even suns flicker and die"
<this part really spoke to me, at the time there was a strong pagan influence in my life, and this seems to take a stab at sun based religions , Wicca / Egyptian ... Some even say that most religions started of as sun based , this is not my theory but one that is well documented ...>

Ps: I don't mean to offend views or believes ... just my 2 cents ...
do what thou wilt !
@Random8 @sokorny No offense taken. Im not disagreeing with you. Our opinions are not mutually exclusive. The sun is a battery. I was never taught that Gods made the Sun for life. I am taught that there is but 1 God. I dont see God as a figure creating life in his workshop or w.e. I see God as the energy in all things. The force behind the bang if u will. Now I have heard of Egypptians referencing a Sun God or w.e.but I believe the word itself has lost its meaning, Father. Like many other things we all...
