i think this song is about being famous and being admired. although the chorus can be taken literally (as in stars in the sky), i think it might mean stars as in, movie stars, etc., and even though they are dead, their influences are still here.

To me, this feels like a song about how we've become too absorbed in technology.

It also feels to be about acknowledgement, and yes perhaps fame or reputation. Knowing, being seen, being heard, understanding. Rising above the noise.
