Stay Lyrics
This is not the first time--You tried to get away
This is not a party--Where people know your name
This is not a classroom--With teacher at the board
This is not a catshow--With prizes at the door
CHORUS
Go--Don't you go
Won't you stay with me one more day
If we get through one more night
If we get through one more night
This is not a horse race--Where winners beat the time
This is not a funeral--With mourners in a line
This is not a sitcom--Where everything's alright
This is not a prison--With terror through the night.
CHORUS
This is not a party--Where people know your name
This is not a classroom--With teacher at the board
This is not a catshow--With prizes at the door
Go--Don't you go
Won't you stay with me one more day
If we get through one more night
If we get through one more night
This is not a funeral--With mourners in a line
This is not a sitcom--Where everything's alright
This is not a prison--With terror through the night.

Anyways, back to Oingo Boingo..
"This is not a party--Where people know your name This is not a classroom--With teacher at the board This is not a catshow--With prizes at the door
This is not a horse race--Where winners beat the time This is not a funeral--With mourners in a line This is not a sitcom--Where everything's alright This is not a prison--With terror through the night. "
Describing life, possibly? And the "Go.." part may be a person asking someone to stay with them and just give life another try tomorrow, instead of maybe suicide. If you've seen the video, if I recall right, the band is playing and ghosts are floating around them. It's most definitely about suicide, if not just about death.
I think not committing suicide is an interesting interpretation for this song, but I'm with those who think this is a love song. I've always thought the song was about a failing relationship and he's singing about how it's not easy but that doesn't mean they should give up on each other.
Yeah, and Kurt's dead, great example AAALEX1.
Hot sure how that comment pertains to this song. I believe the first word in the chorus is "no." I am not sure what this song means.
I think maybe the previous comment was referring to Kurt Cobain naming Boingo as one of his influences; this song could be interpreted as an anti-suicide song, though "Out of Control" puts across the message more directly.
This song is a random collection of short phrases following a very loose set of guidelines put together in a specific order and set to music. I like it
Funny that someone should mention Kurdt C. here... I tried playing this song on guitar and the chorus part sounded exactly the same as the intro to "Heart Shaped Box"... so I guess that's why cannibalox brought him up.
Yeah, I can see this as being directed at somebody who is suicidal.
yeah that is riff is like similar to heart shaped box indeed
suicide?? i always thought this was a love song. who knows.
In the music video a couple is seen talking, maybe arguing when the woman gets up to leave and the man leans across the table and asks her to "stay." They are whisked apart and Danny appears trailing an erie cloud of smoke. I think this song is more about all the ways situations make you feel, love is not socializing, young learning, a game, a race, an end, an unrealistic tv sitcom, a place you are trapped etc. He's addressing all these misconceived notions and maybe there's one or several she's been feeling that have in the past made her pull away. But he's reminding her what love isn't and that it's made her want to leave before but he's vulnerably asking her not to go, to try and make it through and stay with him one more day. I feel like its a romantic plea to not lose his love. I think the ghosts in the video are just a spooky touch that is a theme in many of their videos but they are a happy couple together dancing so it may be depicting what working together could be.
